Very impressive mate, the skin tones are spot on.

This is not a criticism, but I would like to see a bit more contrast on the neck, cheeks and forehead, they do look a little bit clean for a scurvy old sea dog. A few scars, sun spots, dirt etc. would really bring out the character in his face.

Overall its a very realistic looking face and I'm looking forward to seeing more progress pics as you finish him. Well done Sam and keep going.

I would give a bit more five o'clock shadow. Perhaps some greyish. Would make him even more rougher
