Hi to everyone,

Whilst having a cleanup after much mutterings by SWMBO I came across some business cards I picked the card up at a Figureworld show amongst them was one for Pete's Bases

A.jpg
Who is this company I asked myself ...its was set up by a fine fellow called Mr Pete Watson ...no mean figure painter either , he is a carpenter by trade and particularly knows his woods ......of all types and also enjoys recycling interesting bits of timber left over from jobs he is on ...all to our benefit which as he is a figure modeller and knowing the cost of bases decided to get this little venture going producing bases ( which we all need!!) of all types and sizes, shapes at reasonable prices.

So knowing I was in need of some bases I decided to dynamite the lock off my wifes purse and ordered some .....

Well the parcel arrived with not only my bases which I ordered for my busts but also a selection of other types so I thought I "wood" ( play on words there!!!! ) share my thoughts on them with you.

The bases were well packed within a mountain of bubble wrap with all the edges well protected by this .

I had ordered some small bases ( 10 to be exact!!) for my busts , after contacting by e mail with the sizes and I was very happy with the quality of the finished product , particularly the colour which were all constant , they were a simple pedastal type with a shaped base, edges were sharp and the size was exactly as I wanted.

I mentioned that I had a few additional ones in the parcel well suffice to say there were all types ( OBLONG , BARK FACED, ROUND, ANGLED, TRIANGULAR, PLINTHS )

On all of then the colour was good with a nice and constant (with no runs) varnish finish , all are sanded by Pete prior to this to get as smooth surface as possible .

All have a felt underside to protect the display cabinet as well as finishing the base off nicely

Pete has access to all types of woods and is skilled at producing exactly what you want for that latest model ...no matter what size or shape or style .

One I liked was the low squared with the legs and surround on , this comes in different sizes and looks very professional .

Final thoughts:

So there you have it ...I am definately pleased and will be ordering again ,I felt happy and good to be supporting the smaller trader in our hobby , whose service and quality I was more than pleased with, great comms as well regarding the order.

I have no hesitation in saying that I recommend you contact Pete , or why not come to FW on the 16th July , he will also be at Scale Scotland in September and other shows this year.

Hi Guys,

Thought I would post some more details on the metal frames and feet, these were originally seen with the old Poste Militare releases which Pete purchased so now owns the original moulds , using these he gets them cast up for him.

The one in the picture is idea for a single figure

with there also being one that PM used on their 90mm mounted figures

to update these Pete being a clever fellow increased the thickness of the wood inserts which now come in 3 sizes approx 1", 1.5" and 2" these are available for both the foot and mounted figures.....

What a sensible idea and even better they look great as well.

I shall certainly be trying not to spend money at FW with Pete..that's bound to fail then...lol

Thanks for looking in
