Hello everyone!

My name is Spyros , I am from Greece and this is my first post in this forum.

This figure it's painted with oils, like all of my figures so far..
I know acrylics is the new trend (well ..not so new...) but i am ..addicted to oils because of their attributes: easier blending , color depth, drying time..

the truth is i don;t like very much the satin -shinny sometimes- effect , (especially when you' re dealing with wwII subjects) and that;s a good reason to turn in to acrylics. (now that i have my Jo Jojna's order delivered!!!)

I hope some day to post a figure completely painted with acrylics because i ve ;seen what you can achieve if you know how to use them!!!

but 'till that day
i would like to share with you my version of Pegaso's 90mm crusader, painted as a knight hospitaller 13th c.

I am very glad that you liked it!
For the weathering i use oils to achieve the faded effect and then pastels and powders on top ... very easy...
i think any kind of pigment in earth colors could do that..

A very nice job indeed - you are right oils still gives a very dramatic effect. Bravo on your efforts.

Well, once again, I am late into the forum post. . . but I agree with what the
others have said. You are obviously very comfortable with oils. And one of the
things that I am so impressed with, about this particular figure you have
presented here, on your first forum post, is that you really do understand how
it is important to paint in subtle tonal differences. And I will pick just the
painting of the red "surcoat" (not the correct phrase, but you know the part
of his attire that I am speaking about) as there are so many different subtle
shades of reds and browns and tones to show wear, and weather, stains, etc.
That is the thing about your work that really impresses me.

Obviously, you're an artist, and you are very comfortable working in this
medium. As HouseCarl sez: " I am eager to see more of your work". And

The truth is i wasn't prepared for a comment like this one!

I would like to consider myself as an artist since i am a graphic designer
but in this case and i mean in figure painting i think there is a long way to go..

Some years ago I thought that painting in oils was already old fashioned way, but I see that more and more people try to paint figures using them. Is not the medium but the artistic skill that gives the result.
