    Hi Planeteers
I would like to share with you a very fine sculpt/casting from the talented Paul Blaber stable.
This represents a seasoned campaigner serving with the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (Black Watch) in the Crimea 1855.
I personally like to think of him as Colour Sergeant William Gardner VC DCM who battled with distinction in the Crimea and went on to serve in India during the Mutiny when the following deed took place on 5 May 1858 at Bareilly, India for which he was awarded the VC:
For his conspicuous arid gallant conduct on the morning of the 5th of May last, in having saved the life of Lieutenant-Colonel Cameron, his Commanding Officer, who during the Action at Bareilly on that day, had been knocked from his horse, when three Fanatics rushed upon him. Colour-Sergeant Gardner ran out, and in a moment bayoneted two of them, and was in the act of attacking the third, when he was shot down by another soldier of the Regiment. (Letter from Captain Macpherson, 42nd Regiment, to Lieutenant-Colonel Cameron, Commanding that Regiment.)

He later achieved the rank of Sergeant-Major. His medal was sold by one of his descendants to raise money for charity. His VC is on display in the Lord Ashcroft Gallery at the Imperial War Museum, London.
Painted in acrylics with a 5 colour pallet he is my effort.
All the very best for 2016

    Nice work Keith (y)

What was on your palette for this one mate?
  3. Wings5797 A Fixture

    Hi Billy,
For this I used yellow ocher, scarlet, prussian blue, white and lamp black.
Thanks for looking and commenting Mate

It was a pleasure, I'm always interested in your palettes. I'm still trying to fine tune mine. I'm trying out a more earthy, muted palette at the minute with Yellow Ochre, Venetian Red, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber and Titanium White. I've only been messing about with it on the palette up till now, trying out different mixes, but it's pretty flexible and makes for some really nice flesh tones. I'll maybe test it properly on my next figure :)

    Thanks Bob
Just using the primary colours plus black and white is not so difficult or restricting as I thought it would be.
Well aware of famous painters who use this pallet it was not until I saw a French lad's amazing figures here on pF and a colour wheel that lead me into giving it a go.
All the very beat for 2016 Mate

    Thank you Roger.
It was a great piece to paint but the ageing process was all down to Paul Blaber's (blabsy) imaginative sculpt.
I found it quite refreshing to see an older figure.
Thanks for checking this one out, I always value you comments..
