First post. I'm off.
Nothing fancy though.

I've cleaned the mouldlines on the "shoes", under the right arm and the pouch under the left.
Figure is nearly perfect. Very good quality.
I've found 3 small airbubbles, one on the chin, one on the top of its right shoe and one on the cape. A small imperfection on the sleeve near his right hand, but nothing putty can't solve easily.
Straightend the wooden beam and put some pins under his feet.





The hand is a bit tricky. Dril a little hole in the hand for a good fit.
No putty needed.



Next step, preparing a base and try to come up with some kind of background.

I've made some flat stones out of wallfiller. It supposed to be a pile of slate stones.
It is something I'm playing with to get the right composition. After that I will file the edges of the stone. It's too thick now.
When the base is done, I will include small slate rocks as wel.

I'm starting to believe that your figure is 120mm and mine is 54mm.
You paint highlights I can't even see. Even with an optivisor.
I had a bad start, as I was using your figure as a guide.
For a newb like me, of course, the result wouldn't be near your work.
It's to overwhelming. So far for my motivation (Aaaah!!)
So I shut down the computer, and start painting like I'm supposed to do. Just have fun.

I used your colourpallet and already learned a couple of things about skincolours. So this course had a good start.

I had a lot of problems painting the eyes and eyelids. How do you paint eyes? Do you dilute your paint? Which nr of brush?
I'm glad my figure don't look crosseyed, but I'm not painting a white highlight in the iris. It took me so much time to get it so far right.

I've had no troubles with blending the colours. I think I understand the concept well. Where to put shadows and highlights, and mainly the intensity, is something I want to learn here.

My work this weekend.
In my opinion, besides a few touch-ups on the bald head, the skincolour on the head and chest is finished. The hair is just a base colour the see the contrast. The neck and hands only in base colour.

Your figure is not that bad. With a bit more of work could be even better.
Don't be disappointed if you don't get the same results I do. When painting miniatures there are huge steps between getting an explanation, understand that explanation and be able to apply the knowledge. Almost always, it comes with practice.
So, even if this whole course just served to let you understand a couple of things about flesh tones, is a nice advancement.

The main problems I see are in the areas around the eyes. In the right side, you have marked something that is like a bag under the eye, too big and displaced to be the lower eyelid. You'll have to correct that. Just take the other side as model, as you did it OK there. To paint the eyes, I use the same brush I used in the rest of the head, a number 1. If you feel you'll have better chances with a thinner brush, go ahead. The trick with the paint there is to thin it to a point that it still is opaque but not too thick. If you thin it too much it will be hard to control and too transparent...

update of the past weeks work.

I've corrected the sag under the left eye.

I haven't made photo's when the shirt was finished. I was a bit too lazy and, like mentioned in another post, it's a colour that is never finished.
The sleeves won't come out like I wanted. so I let it rest for a couple of days. Also one of the reasons why there were no pictures.
So I made a start with the trousers. That went very well (compared to my skills). Although, thanks to the pictures I found some things to improve.
Last weekend I've finished the sleeves of the shirt.
So in my opinion the shirt and trousers are ready for some pointers.

Man, that looks really good.

Both items are very nicely done, specially the shirt! The trousers have gone to a tone somewhat orange in the highlights. Don't know if you have done it deliberately, but it looks nice with the skin tone, that is warmer than othr versions.

I'm finishing my last figure in a couple of days now, so I'm back on this course/ this cossack probably next monday. It's time to finish this puppy

Ok, Figure is done I guess.
Only it needs some matt varnish and of course the base.

I couldn't find the citadel colors, so I made my own mix of Scorged Brown.
Same with the belt and the ring above the chest. My own Vallejo mix of red-copper, some black, and bit of gold highlights.
The iron pieces on the weapon also mix of black and metal-steel, black wash and a highlight of metal-steel.

Next update, the groundwork.
A little contrast with the dark red trousers and the green on the base.
The rough base is finished. I have to add some fine sand, a bit of pigments to tie the figure to the base and some washes.
