Ciao a tutti,

I've just started my first bust ever, quite a challenge for someone who's always painted 54mm, with very few 75mm and even less 90mm..

Anyway, I have to say that this bust is amazingly cast and sculpted, a full 10 for Young miniatures!

I've completed the head (just need a touch up on the base of the neck), the helmet (here I need to finish the luminous disc and attach the first aid kit), life jacket and the coat (here I need to paint the various patches).

I can't stop painting this little fella, is a real joy to paint!

Tell me what you think!

Ciao

Giovanni

Great painting for a first bust. Flesh tones are great, the yellow of the preserver is spot on and the overall tone of the bust comes together well.

Hello Giovanni,

This is gonna be a very good result for a first bust ever painted. I agree about the quality of the Young products. They are fun to paint.

Fantastic work Giovanni ! (y) The dented part of the helmet with the broken net is a nice touch :)

Can't agree more on the quality of Young, I've been in playing with miniatures for more than 10 years and the quality is outstanding!

Thanks so much for your compliments.

Really well painted , well done .
I hope to see more of your work in the future

hi Sam,

Thanks so much, I'll try to post more in the near future.

First bust ever? Chuckles.

This backs up the theory that artists accustomed to smaller scales have more fun on a bigger canvas. The handsomeness of Young's sculpture is exploited to the fullest here. Congrats!

Giovanni,

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!

Will you share your colors for face, helmet, uniform and equiptment?

Thanks
Todd

hi David,

Thanks so much, compliments coming from a bust specialist like you is a real achievement for me.

Giovanni,

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!

Todd

Hi Todd,

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it!

As for the mix of the face, please have a look at my video tutorial on my blog on how to paint a face: http://giovannimodelling.blogspot.com/2010/11/video-tutorial-2.html

As for the uniform I used various shades of kaki, green and brown, ans I touch up the deepest shadow and the maximum highlights with oil colours (Raw umber for the shadows, light ochre for the highlights).

Helmet is again a mix of various green with olive drab, black and SS Camo black, highlights are done with a really light green colour.

Accessories....which one?

Ciao
