    Hi everyone

I have completed another little project on my lengthy list.
Russian Palace Grenadier of Golden Company, 1850's, bust 200mm, mostly sculpey.

A very special unit where only those who proved themselves courageous were selected, mostly seasoned veterans - so nearly all of them have massive bushy beards and chest-fulls of medals in most pictures.
Most splendid uniforms went as a privilege to even lowest private rank - hence the unit became known as Golden Company. Disbanded after revolution it has now been revived by enthusiasts.

    I hope you like it.

    Hi Gaudin,
That's an excellent piece of work mate.
Absolutely way better than I could do.
Is it his hat which makes the torso look a wee bit thin maybe?

I really like the character of the face and the facial hair is some of the best Ive seen.

    Hi guys,

I am glad you like it, hopefully will go commercial if enough interest is generated.

Grant, I think there is a number of things that make that effect, the beard forks out to sides, the hat is wide and bulky, also camera may add a little curvature as I shot slightly from above. The shoulders are exactly two head length from armature stage, may be not accounting for thickness of sleeves. In the end of the day there is alot of variety in our species :)( I love that excuse)

Interesting item this I too never knew this formation existed, nice bit of sculpting too, like Gells to me it does look a bit thin, but in the head shoulders print it does the same I think it's an optical illusion as discussed

You have really captured the age of the character and detail of fur and hair very very well.

Great subject. As I understand it, they wore captured bearskins of Napoleon's Imperial Guard. Unfortunately, they melted away during the 1917 March (February) Revolution. There was so much Imperial Russian military history that was lost because of those damn Marxists. What a pity.

Thank you, friends, I am very pleased you like it.

Jaybo, you are right, they were disbanded , but recently there was revival of sorts by re constructors

Also there is another a modern version of the regiment to participate in various ceremonies, weddings, barmitzvas etc

needless to say I prefer the older guys (no matter how wrong this may sound)
