I painted today blond hair and was very happy.
    Undercoating: vallejo skintone.
    Base: naples yellow hue.
Highlight: naples yellow hue + white.
    High-highlight: highlight + more white.
Shade: Naples yellow hue + mars brown.

    A very satisfying blond.

That sounds quite like what I was thinking as well. But it never hurts to find out what other artists are doing as well.

I just got some new naples yellow and mars brown from Old Holland oils so I think I'll give that a try.

gothicgeek, Thanks for the acrylics mix I have most of those colors as well so I'll keep that mix in mind as well.

    Cheers,

Anders Heintz had a thread on his V Bench awhile back of a viking bust he was painting. He was doing a SBS (I believe) but I'm not sure if the pics are still up or not. Regardless, he listed the paints he was using. Hope this helps.

A little depends on the shade of hair you're going for but do make an effort not to make the mixtures too yellowish, which is the most common mistake we make when painting blondes.

If you or a loved one aren't a suitable reference :D then find pics in magazine or online and mix your colours directly to match, this is the best way of getting the right sorts of colours.
