Cuirass metallics undercoated in Sargent's metallics (wonderful stuff and only $5 for the set!).

Still pretty rough. I need to smooth them out a bit with more paint a fine brush....then the inks go on. I have added some ink to the rear plate of his cuirass and helmet....you can see the difference. There are still lots of details to paint and touch up as you can see. So from this point I will be jumping about a bit.

Those cheapy Sargent metallic acrylics actually work really good. Coming along fantastic... but I'm starting to hate you a little bit again... but I'll get over it... eventually.

Added some inks to his cuirass. A highly diluted mix of blue, black and sepia. More ink to come.

More progress. Next big decision is whether or not to seal the steel with a gloss varnish. Any recommendations? Still lots to do but it's harder and harder to see where? I am moving towards the puttering stage.

Just found this very cool Russian print of General D'Hautpoul charging at Eylau in 1807. What a figure THAT would make!

An idea is to use Tamiya X19 Smoke to seal the steel. It will give a nice glossy finish and in the mean time it will look like a light worn cuirass. Usually, I used X19 after the oil washes dried. This for heavy worn cuirass or armour, but in your case, maybe you don't wont to present him like that. That's why I suggested to use X19 only. It's worth trying. You always can go to inks or oil paints after you applied the X19 if you don't like how it looks.
    Looks awesome, so far.

Thanks gents. I don't think I posted this already. Video of the cuirassier charge in the snow of Eylau from the excellent French film Colonel Chabert.

    Taking great shape Colin.
It stands up well to mega magnification in the cuirass close up.
As someone who suggested don't paint it, I am really enjoying this thread.
    What is Lynn's view now?
