Ongoing B-24 Diorama

Too cold for assembly in the garage, and too big to work on in the studio. This will be the base to the B-24 diorama. The top will have the groundwork, and when not on display the plane and other items will nest inside. It will help with transportation, though set up will take some time. Final footprint is 32 by 37 inches. Hopefully I can get it sanded and finished this weekend and get the groundwork on it by the end of next weekend. Thanks to our cat for showing the scale!

Time to begin groundwork. Currently testing layouts. I think the final version will be close to this, with each quarter acting as a vignette. The most of the figures are yet to be built. I have a couple more vehicles I could add, but I’m not convinced it needs any more busyness. Still, I’d like to get a Cletrac in there.

Looks great Matt and I can't wait to see it all finished.
Only small suggestion would be to swing the B24's wings slightly so that it's not quite so symmetrically placed  (y)

Keep going I'm running out of popcorn watching . . .

Agreed! I’ve thought a lot about that, but the only way to get it to fit even on this much too big base is by going almost diagonal. I’m generally not a fan of dios that drape over the edges of the base unless there is a dramatic reason (i.e. figures falling off a cliff, etc.). Because this is actually oversize for tables at some shows, I’m worried someone would walk by and catch the wing on their sleeve. When I get the hardstand down I’ll play a bit more and see what I can do.

At least ya got a friend to help, lol. Love the rigs, figs and the bird. I especially like the fuel truck, great detail!

That was built using the Italeri tank truck, but it’s actually a fire truck.

    I love how it progresses
If I understand correctly, you want to portray the drama of a wounded airman extracted from a damaged bomber following a tough mission. Putting the ambulance driver sitting about, having a relaxed smoke just in the front of the scene, may take away some of the drama and gravity of the situation. Just my thought

Continue to follow with interest, Benny

    Hi Matt

WOW on the base it's going to look great .......personally I would want those wings well within the base itself ...but it's a cracking project and great to see what your thinking to add

Still can't get over the size and details on the plane !

    Happy benchtime

I like your design-the base doubles as the transport case! Very clever!

    Prost!

    Hi Matt

That's just fabulous......will it have a cover over as the wing tips look very close to edge

    Fantastic modelling

Thanks for sharing the great updates

Finally, the figures begin! Working out poses now, lots to adjust. About fifteen more to go once I finish these.

Very, very cool! This will be a very impressive scene when done!

For the figures with raised arms, the ones receiving the stretcher, I suggest to raise their shoulders considerably.

Sketching out figures, added a few more. These will all get refined and re-dressed with putty once I have them all arranged.

You’re much too kind! These are a huge mix of old Airfix multi pose body parts, Hornet heads, AC Models B17 crew, and bits from the parts box. There’s even an old Hasegawa German tank crew in the mix.

This is coming together really well, Matt. Adding a few more figs for affect is a good idea, adds interest IMHO, and keeps the story rolling throughout the scene.
