    Hi guys,

just some initial pics of my latest conversion of the 1/16 Tamiya Afrika Korps figure into an officer, Mountain Artillery during the Second Afghan War.

Based on a pic by RJMarrion in an old Modelworld mag, I have long wanted to do this one. (Well the mag is dated Sept '73, so since then, in fact!) The original figure is in tan coloured plastic and the additions are plain to see. Mods in Milliput and Duro, straps from plastic strip, waterbottle from the original, but reshaped, telescope from plastic tube, helmet in Milliput and Duro. Base from MDP, wooden bit by me! Arms are separate at the moment, for ease of painting.

Colours will be; helmet, stained brown, blue tunic, brown leatherwork and boots, khaki breeches.

Can't wait to get paint on this, hope you like it,

    Steve(y)

    Nice job Steve,
Not seen one of these before. They used to boast that they could climb up the side of a lamp post,
trusting to the stick of the paint.
    Well done I like it.

Hi guys - thanks for following this, here are a few progress pics, so far, from this morning. Just blocked in the basics, but have worked on the tunic with progressively darker washes. I will maybe need to push the highlights a bit more, but will leave it for now until I have painted some of the belts, to see how it looks then.

At club tonight I will work on the helmet and breeches, again, using washes.

All painted in Vallejo acrylics, I hope you like it so far, thanks for looking in. (y)

Cheers Nap - I started with a basecoat of Medium Blue, then mixed a wash of Dark Prussian Blue and thinners which I applied two coats. For the last wash, I added a touch of Black wash to the mix, which seemed to do the trick! In reality, it does not look quite so dark and the shading and highlights are quite subtle - honest!(y)

Thanks again for the encouragement, chaps! Here are some more progress pics of yesterdays efforts. Apologies for the pics, but the light is very intense this morning, there's a strange ball of light in the sky for some reason!! The colours appear a little cold, I will try some more later when the light changes.

Almost there with the uniform and kit, I have broken with my usual method and have left the flesh parts till last. I have been experimenting with gouache and I will use it on this one, so I shall seal everything with varnish, then tackle the face and hands last of all - fingers crossed!

    Thanks for looking,

    Steve(y)
