I’ve recently started work on this 1/9 scale bust from Gordon Mitchell depicting an officer of Napoleon’s 2nd Lancers Imperial Guard, the famous Red Lancers. It’s a lovely bust and there is some great texture detail on the belts and czapska. Although it looks almost done there is still quite a bit to do on the belts and aiguilette to try and bring out some of the detail and the plume and cockade need sorting. It’s a colourful and striking piece and has been really enjoyable to paint.

Hi Neal

Blimey thst didn't take you long to get to this stage

Very vibrant colours and great gold details , fleshwork again really nice

Got to ask what's the colours for achieving that uniform ?

look forward to seeing more on the surface detail on the pouchbelt

Pleasure to see as always

Why not enter a piece in the class of your choice in the new FOTM

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Hi Nap. Plenty of spare time on my hands means things are moving on and off the bench a bit quicker.

As for the uniform colours the red is straight Cadmium Red over a base coat of Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet. I wanted to keep the red brighter to try and portray a more expensive, quality uniform as befitting an officers the Imperial Guard.

Shading was the addition of some Prussian Green to the red and highlights were the addition of Cadmium Yellow to the red.

The blue is Indigo with some French Ultramarine and a bit of Purple Lake added.

Shade was the addition of black and highlights were using a warming grey mixed from Ivory Black, Titanium White and some Naples Yellow.
