    On November 1, 1894, the Tsar of Russia, Aleksandr. III died as a late result of an assassination attempt...:

    When the imperial private train derailed near the village of Borkij after a bomb attack on October 17, 1888, the tsar saved his family's life by using his extraordinary physical strength to support the roof of the completely smashed carriage (on the left in the picture) until help arrived Job was...:

    The ruler suffered a ruptured spleen that went undetected and therefore untreated, which led to his early death only six years later..:

    On the following day, November 2, 1894, his son Nikolai and his wife Aleksandra Fyjodorovna…

    ...ascend the throne.

    The young emperor is most likely carrying a heavy psychological burden:
    As a little boy...

    ... witnessed how his grandfather, Aleksandr II, was murdered...

    Then he - still Tsarevich - was himself the victim of an assassination attempt during a visit to Japan...

    ...and now his father dies - also as a result of an assassination attempt. The dying Tsar's last words to his son and successor are:

    "Hold everything fixed!", what means, that Nikolai should not give up the autocracy privileges that give the Russian tsar unlimited power at any price!

    Witnesses of the time observed a very pronounced tendency towards fatalism in the young tsar, and this is probably where the mental disorder manifests itself most conspicuously.

    Strictly speaking, the new Tsar Nikolai II is now “only” regent, since he has not yet been crowned.

    The lavish coronation festivities in Moscow in May 1896...

    ... will end in the disaster on the Khodynka field with several hundred deaths...

    The Tsar was considered a "weather vane" by advisers, politicians and foreign visitors because he often changed his mind.

    The word circulated about Nicholas II: "His Majesty always has the opinion of whoever he is talking to."

    He only defended the autocratic principle throughout his reign with a consistency bordering on stubbornness - which ultimately cost him his life - following his father's last wish...
