I'm slowly getting there, I'm learning more with each figure I paint.
Still lots more to learn though.
Fingers crossed I can make some improvements on the face tomorrow without messing it up.

A little more progress.
I've tried to adjust the right eye as Nap pointed out, did the best I could, while trying to steady my hand, I wanted it to go one way, it wanted to go the other.
Anyway after Rob triggered a light bulb moment for me ( Thanks Rob) I used some oil glazes on the flesh to add more contrast and depth of colour,
still trying to keep it subtle. I'm now quite satisfied with the face after adding the glazes and doing a little tidying up.
The neck scarf has been painted in acrylics, and the collar has been blocked out.

Thanks Illias. I used some glazes to tone down some of the highlights, and then some oils glazes for the shadows.
All were blended in with a flat brush.
The collar has just been blocked out at present Scale 75 Deep Red for the inside and Vallejo Flat Red for the outside
I've yet to add shadow and highlights, before applying a thin coat of red to make it vibrant.
For the neck scarf, I initially painted the shadow areas in black, and the rest in a grey.
Washes of Vallejo Black were built up until I had a nice blended and smooth appearance.
To finish off, I gave a coat of thinned satin varnish to add a nice texture.

A quick update. I've corrected the eye as suggested by Snik as best I could.
Following the completion of the face I've turned my attention to the collar.
I added highlights to the top edge and sections at the front.
Then a glaze of Cadmium Red Deep oils was brushed over the top and put aside to dry.
This has added some vibrancy to the colour.
Returning to the Bicorne, my alternative approach didn't work as hoped, for some reason the gold ink didn't dry, so I abandoned it,
Stripped it down and started again. This time for the lacing, I've used a mix of DarkStar Brass, Kimera Warm Yellow and Scale 75 Black.
This has provided me with a good base to work from.

Very nice Malc, the red is very rich and the lace colour on the bicorne great, keep a note of that mix cos it's bang on

Cracking job on flesh and love the lace work. Its a good likeness of the actor and you are doing a good job on that front with the painting.

Yes, The lacing has received two washes of burnt umber.
Once its dry, I'll start to try and bring out the detail.

As just mentioned above, the lacing on the bicorne has been given a couple of washes, and left to dry before I go any further.
So this mornings task was to start work on the collar decoration.
The base colour was a Scale 75 Iroko with a little dark brown and black added, to pick out the detail, I mixed some birch into some Iroko.
A long job, but it was worth the effort. I just need to do a bit of tidying up.
That's a job for tomorrow, as I now need to pick up a bigger brush and do some decorating. Thankfully that doesn't need any shadows or highlighting.

He's looking really good the collar red transitions so smoothly and the gold work is coming along nicely.
