    Hey guys!

While waiting for some stuff form VLS I decided to make something and I came up with a US GI walking with a water jerrycan. I did this one last night and I hope to finish him of this evening. I think that watching Bill work really helped me understand a few things better, such as one should flesh out the armature pretty close to the real thing, and spread the putty on thin, you can always add more!

Let me know what you think of it so far, will show more as progress is made!

I really like the folds/drapery on this guy. Nice pose as well. I see you lifted up one shoulder and dropped the other. Nice and important touch. Look forward to seeing more from you (y)

    Anders,
Dude, looks really good so far. If I may offer a suggestion, it would be this: make the folds on the right side (under the arm) a bit shallower and more vertical so as to add to the effect of weight being carried on the left side. This was an idea I saw in Burnes Hogarth's book on dynamic drapery. I Quang'd your picture to give you an idea of what I mean (the red lines represent the directions of the folds). Also, some gentle & shallow folds on the torso - across where the shirt is buttoned - would make the guy look like he's slightly leaning forward because of the weight. Of course, these are only suggestions and nothing more.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

    Pete,

I think you are on to something there! The folds on the side would look good, but the body is not bent so much, and for it to create small tight folds like that the shirt would have to be fairly stretched if you know what I mean, and I just dont know if the torso is bent enough to cause such tight folds.

I'll take you up on the small folds once both pockets are finished!

    Will post more soon!

    Anders,
Okay, my photoshop skills suck :) What I meant was that some folds following the directions of the red lines would give it that look of added weight on his left side. Shallow folds okay, but not sharp and thin ones as I implied. Sorry for the misinterpration, dude.

    Hey Guys!

Here is the finished figure, Bill will add the jerry can as he have the castings of Warriors cans as well as the helmet. Been a fun project for sure, and I think its my best 35th scale figure so far.

    Hey Anders,

I will agree it is your best work but the fly does not look correct. I think that you have some nice folds but the fly flap would have some in that area as well. It also looks like the fly flap is a separate piece of cloth. I think these changes will help.

    Hey John and Joe!

    Thanks!

I'll do a little carving on the fly Joe to tone it down some.

    Anders -

Looks really good. I especially like the 3rd photo from today.

One "observation only". It seems like the right arm is outward from the body and the shoulder is a bit too high. Carrying a jerry can would tend to pull the arm and shoulder down a bit, wouldn't it? Could just be the first two photo's... :)

    Thanks for your comments!

    Roc,

I sanded the fly down some, although I think that I liked it better the way it was before.

    Keith,

His left shoulder is dropped because thats where the weight is, the right shoulder is up (enhanced by folds) because the left one is down and because his arm is out and up a bit.

    Bert,

I didnt have a Warriors Jerry can casting here yet (same with helmet), so Bill Chilstrom will put that on and do the other hand as well to make them match.

Anders, I thought the fly looked more like a strap coming up between the legs, taking it down and incorporating the folds will make it appear to be the fly to the pants verses an object overlapping them. The right sleeve seems to bulge at the bicep and looks like it could use a few folds. Is this figure a collaboration with Bill?
