Here is a new bust of Theodore Hardy VC, DSC, MC who is widely regarded as the most decorated non-combatant of WW1.

Aged 51 when war broke out his application to join the army was turned down as being too old. Regulations were relaxed and in1916 the army accepted him as a Temporary Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class and attached to 8th Battalion, The Lincolnshire Regiment.
The first award was the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) gazetted on 18 October 1917, following an action on 17 December 1917 his was awarded the Military Cross and finally the regiment was in action in the Somme area where another series of actions resulted in the awarding of the VC.

Superbly done, and emphasises that non-combatants, especially padres and medical personnel received the supreme award.

Mike - I agree, the work of non-coms was ver important and deserves a higher profile. I was interested by his story and the contrast of the 'dog's collar' and helmet, and a bit surprised such a bust has not been produced before.

Martin - glad you like the likeness, this is head version number 4!

Fascinating project, thanks for sharing Theodore's story.
I'll be doing some more research on this interesting non-com hero.
