Rene, it looks very nice !
I know that the character is very slim, but I would add some mass on the cheeks...but that's just me ;)

    Regards !

    I like it !
Lot of "character" in the sculpt, and very good reproduction of the drawing too...

    OhMa'Gosh. . . . what a talent

    Hi René:

I'm late gettin' into this thread. You are so talented. Love the concept and the
way you're proceeding with it. The SBS photos really help. But personally, I
am as impressed with your drawings as I am with your sculpting.

I am curious, and reluctantly admit that as a Heartland "Yank" who knows
only one language, I would like to know what you wrote in French that the
soldier in the foxhole was saying, in that cartoon???

    Very impressive,

    :D

'game over for you Wilhelm..game over...'

the cartoon is about two soldiers who, despite of the mud, dirt and exploding shells still manage to play correspondence chess, ignoring the war this way.

Chessplayers can be very monomanical, concentrated and able to forget all that's around them.

By using the French language it's also more obvious he is a French soldier.

    thanks,

    René

    Oh Darko,

forgot to tell you, thank you too.

I was almost trapped again by making hollow cheeks, like in cartoon.

ofcourse it's better this way ;)

    Thanks Steve!

there is a slight change of plan.
I think Carl will be wearing the cap with the wool inside out, eagle and cocarde very visible.
Perhaps arms crossed ( no self made rifles).

I like painting 'cold' faces with purple noses.

Maybe a prelude to some characters from 'Stalingrad' I wish to study.

    true, true Ian..

Making a rifle is a challenge but in this case I really don't need one.
He's just a stonecold, mercyless CO, just equiped with a nice Walther or so on his hips.
This piece would not enhance the drama I forsee, neither do I show his hips.

Having a triangle basicly in mind to present him, arms crossed or maybe this pose with the cigaret.
