I don't want to hijack the thread but doing the foot of the base is easy. I can send pictures on a separate thread if you want.
what I do is this. Cut a cube in 8/4 thick wood (2") and cut another cube a little big bigger in 4/4 thick wood (1").
then profile the thinner cube with whatever profile router bit you want. Finally, glue the two pieces together and apply finish.

I must add that you need the right tools to do the job and the rights clamps and setup. Since you are working with small bits of wood, the risk of injury is higher so do not try this if you don't know what you are doing.

For your needs and the size 3x3 'excellent, if you need special measures ask.
