Not much material on Zagonvi's Battalion but their tailored black uniforms would make a nice piece. Van Dorn's 11th Miss red uniforms didn't last long but the Colt revolving rifle would be a eye-catcher if done correctly. Besides, that uniform lends itself to other uniform schemes. I like both suggestions

Here's one I never seen done....19th Alabama with coat tails, Mississippi Rifle and a weird bayonet. The Mississippi Rifle was 48.5 (123 cm) in length

Three different pics but the same Bowie knife - obviously a studio prop and perhaps the rifle and bayonet too. But Troiani shows the same. The model 1855 Mississippi rifle was a common early war rifle so that makes sense but the bayonet actually used may have been the sword style.

Thanks now that is interesting would need to see the coat tails to get an idea of what they look like. The bayonet is very unusual it’s definitely worth a second look.

To the best of my knowledge no early war 19th Alabama jacket survived and no photos have ever surfaced showing the back. Don Toriani may have some insight but this is my best suggestion. The jackets as seen in the pics are very, very simple and are similar in cut to other militia jackets. No collar decoration, no cuff buttons and no trim detail. Therefore I surmise that the tails must also be very plain. Here's my suggested design:

Style I has two inner panels with the one overlapping the vent opening. Style II is just a simple vented back. Two brass buttons would seem about right for this jacket.

Lacking a surviving example or pic, I believe a Style II is a reasonable assumption

If you're still looking for early war suggestions consider the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. The state issued some uniform items that were worn at First Manassas.

According to the Regimental History of the First Minnesota, 1861-1864 by R. Holcombe, the state initially issued Black trousers with the red shirts. Makes for a striking color scheme

I couldn’t let this one get away, order sent. Excellent sculpt gents. I’ve been in an ACW kick for awhile now. If you’re taking votes, I’d like to add mine to Rick’s suggestions for the 19th Alabama and the 1st Minnesota.

Hi Rick thanks for the info the Minnesota is very interesting indeed we were looking at that we are thinking similar action pose but with the bed roll we shall see so many good ideas. Thanks for the drawing of the coat tails they will come in handy for future reference.

Tom thanks for the order it will be with you soon. We are definitely looking at the Minnesota as a possible addition to the range along with others.
