I just wanted to let everyone on the Planet know that I have just completed sculpting a pretty comprehensive line of 54mm spare parts for Franco Prussian War figures in 54mm. The parts include canteens, cartridge and expense pouches, mess kits, cooking pots, backpacks (the French pack has a rolled shelter half wrapped around three sides), and a Prussian Pickelhaube (M1860 pattern) and French kepi (unfortunately no Needle and Chassepot rifles as yet).

The parts are all designed to be in scale with Hornet heads, sculpted by Roger Saunders.

The parts are all cast in high quality resin, should be available in about 2-3 weeks, and can be purchased from Brad Liford. You can e:mail Brad at scrmnegle2000@cs.com. For those who are not aware of Brad's casting work, it is superb - as good as anything being done right now. The pickelhaub and kepi will be cast in partially-hollowed out form, to make it easier to adjust the position on the figure's head.

The exact content of each set and price are not yet determined. These came out very well I think, and should be a big help to anyone interested in making Franco Prussian War conversions.

John, when I first read that, I thought I died and gone to modeling heaven!

Bill, it would be great if those came in packets of 5 or more each-5 pickelhaubes, 5 kepis, etc...Is that possible?

No pictures yet. Actually I am just finishing up the headgear now, and will deliver it to Brad at the Friday night SCAHMS meeting.

Send Brad an e:mail with any suggestions you have concerning content (iyts up to him). The following are what I have sculpted:

    French:
    Cartridge Pouch (1860 version)
    Cartridge Pouch (1867 version)
Expense Pouch (worn at back of waistbelt)
    Canteen
    Kepi
Knapsack (I haven't yet made the tent pegs)
    Mess Kit
    Cooking Pot

    Prussian:
    Two (2) Cartridge Pouches
    Canteen
    Knapsack
    Cylindrical Messkit
Pickelhaube (M1860 with brass rear spine)

If you multiply each of the above sets by 2, 3 or 5 you will get an idea of how much each package will contain. If you have a suggested quantity per set, e:mail Brad with your thoughts.

Not to get ahead of the game here, cuz what you will be offering is incredible, but I wouldn't mind seeing other types of Prussian and Bavarian headgear and of course body parts (i.e. arms, legs etc. ) and of course small arms. Again not to get ahead of the game. ;)

Jason - you are one lucky b@$^@&d :) ;) Now if Bill ever decided to make some WWII subjects and/or gear, then I'd be in ...... well, you get the picture (and I'm sure Bill does too).

Come on, Bill! Make some WWII accessories and - best of all - figures and I'll make sure that a certain bottle of 20+ year-old scotch whiskey can be found alone and far away from prying eyes in a certain hospitality suite at a show very near you next March.

The last parts being produced in this series are a French/Prussian Infantry Trumpet (with tassels). Brad Liford is working on the casting now.

Looks like the sets will be broken into French and Prussian packs. Each pack will contain headgear/equipment for three (3) soldiers - plus one trumpet with tassels. This means that each French set will contain 10 pieces x 3 plus the trumpet and tassels = 33 pieces. The Prussian set will contain 8 x 3 + 3 = 26 pieces.

Price is expected to be US$15 per set. I think he will charge US$25/set for 6 figures to encourage larger orders. Of course postage will be added to that.

We are exploring how to get a series of rifles in metal (Dreyse, Chassepot and maybe a Bavarian Podewils). More on that later.

I'm really excited about these and hope they prove helpful in encouraging budding converters to "get off the shnide"!!!
