SBS to paint a rose .

For a pink rose, I start with a magenta acrylic base coat. Kimera is especially good for this. It’s heavily pigmented and covers in one coat.
Next, magenta and black mixed make a deep shadow for the deepest recesses.
Straight magenta is then applied to all surfaces except the edges of the petals.
Straight white is touched onto the edges.
Now, blend the border areas together gently with a clean, dry brush.
This will usually blur your top white highlights so more white can be added at the very edges and worked in. It’s real easy to get too much paint on at this stage, so a good solution is to lightly touch the edges with a makeup sponge before applying the final highlight.
Yes, the common, humble makeup sponge can be a miracle cure for the “too much oil paint on the figure” malady.
Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to use a Q tip for this operation. You’ll regret it

    Hi to all

Thanks to PF member Colin Fraser for agreeing I can share his GOLD NMM mixes

Here are the paints I use for embroidery left to right darkest to lightest.. I like Liquitex pro artist’s acrylics because they are thick and one can almost sculpt embroidery with the brush tip.

Here are the inks I use on the embroidery at different stages, separately or mixed….but always heavily diluted.

    As a comparison...my mixes

There’s no set down ratio with each ...just a build up with acrylics using a minute touch of blending medium ...I use W&N ..see piccy others are available of course

    04E810C5-A992-4D5D-AD09-5329835E57F1.jpeg

    Basecoat over a primer #1

    Mix of #1 & 2 ..virtually a wash

Then the previous with a bit of 3

    #3 & 4 for initial highs

Previous plus # 5 ...gradually building up

#5 on its own for the high points

Finally a very diluted wash of #6 ...build this up after waiting to dry ..it will leave a slight sheen

You could add a minute 50/50 mix of Gloss and Satin Varnish but not a must

You could also use these colours for variations
