Here's a flat I just finished. Actual size is 100mm. I'm still debating whether to leave the backgound black or do some faint suggestion of a bull ring. Cheers.

Beautiful work Pat...........I really like what you have done. Flats can be contagious as I am looking more and more at flats than before. If you have a source for a variety of flats let me know.

Pat, very nice work, I would make the background black, this will make the flat really stand out.

    Cheers

    Hi Pat,

Super job and that's no bull (O.K. sick I know). I'd go with black and not draw away from an excellent paint job.

Pat, Nice job. I'd keep it simple on this one and leave the background alone. My two cents worth. :) ~Gary

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments. I think I agree (the more I look at it!) that the black background may be the better choice. Besides, being a bit lazy, I can call it done now.

Guy - I agree that flats can be captivating. I've spent the last year or so doing only flats, and find that my eye for "rounds" painting has improved. (I will be going back to rounds shortly to do that fabulous Pegasso knight recently purchased through this site from John at MMW.) Also, my friendship with a flats dealer means that I am always being temped by his latest inventory - needless to say I can't resist!

Hi Pat! Good job on the flat! I actually have that one on the workbench too and hopefully will get to painting on it soon. I have not decided which color scheme for the suit of lights yet.
I would leave it on the black background so as not to distract from the detail of the piece.

Thanks, Penny. I'm following your sbs with great interest. Looks like Guy has caught the flat fever as well. I hope others will give it a try.
