Hi all, I started my first flat today. Its 90mm I thought going for a larger size might help for the first try. I'm finding it very interesting to paint trying to make it look like a round. I've just been experimenting with different ideas at the moment but here is where I'm up to at the end of the day. I hope you enjoy it still has a long way to go.

The coat looks very effective Andrew.

    At last!

Looks like you've made a good start Andrew, like Carl says the coat is starting to look very good.
Well are you a convert? :D

    Thanks fellas,
Not going to give up rounds just yet Roger but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another flat if I saw one I liked. It's a nice new challenge I'm enjoying it.

I'm pleased your enjoying it Andrew.
I often see round figures here that I would like to paint but the mountain of unpainted flats that I seem to have collected in a relatively short period of time puts me off buying them. However it doesn't put me off buying more flats... I don't know what kind of logic that is but there you go :D

Very well Andrew. I like the shadowing effect , you´ve fade it perfectly I also like the different tones of brown for the clothing,I think it´s appropriate for this subject.

A great start! Who makes the flat? I think he has a cousin... Flats are a bit addictive. They're easier to clean up and there's usually no assembly involved. A 5-10 minute cleanup, some primer, and you're painting. I like the larger ones as well - 75-100mm. Easier to see. Press on!

    Cheers,

    Glen

Very good paintwork on your first flat Andrew.
My first flat is laying around somewhere. Never finished it.

Here is the update after today's painting. It's interesting to see how it's turned out, it seems a little bit comic book style which is how I tend to draw but I'm not unhappy with it. Here he is.
Feel free to comment and critique

Looks like you have a natural flair for flats Andrew. (y)
I would leave this one as it is because it is very good but on the next one go a bit stronger with the highlights to give more of a feeling of the direction of the light, usually from the top left but either side, it doesn't matter.

Looking forward to seeing your next one ;)
