    Greetings! Here is the latest update on Murat. I've made some progress but what you see here is still not finished. The boots, for example, are still only undercoated. I'm happy to say I played with some settings on my camera and I think this photo is MUCH better than my last. Thanks for looking - more to come.

    That's turning out really nicely! Who's figure is this? Is it painted with oils or acrylics?

    Jay, Matthew, Chris, Vergilius, and Marc,

    Thanks guys! Matthew, this is a 54mm Metal Models kit. I use both oils and acrylics, but what I've done so far is mostly acrylics. Marc, thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean about the pic. It looks pretty sharp/clear to me and as I said, it's a big improvement over my past posts.

    In that case you post your mix(es) for the gold lace and the sash?

    Thank you! I appreciate your comments.
    Matthew - I tend to mix "on the fly" and go with my gut (or eye). I rarely write formulas down because I dont want to get stuck in a rut but my gold mix basically comes down to four colors: 1. a yellow such as Desert Yellow 2. an orange such as red leather (almost the exact equivalent of Mars Orange in oils) 3. a brown, I find German Camo Black-Brown works well, and 4. Black. Hope this helps.

    HI Jason;

    I've been watching this thread very carefully hoping to get a few pointers on the gold trim you did. I think your treatment of the trim is masterful, and really sets off the rest of the figure (which by the way is also very nicely done). I have some gold trim to do on a couple of napoleonic figures myself, so thanks for sharing this and inspiring me to try a little something different.

    Really enjoyed seeing your work in Chicago, and hope I get a chance to see some other examples again.

    Thanks, I'll give this a try. I assume you shade and highlight in oils, so I'll have to tinker with these colors to see what works.

    Jason, even though when you click to enlarge the pic, it becomes a bit blurred, the high quality of your handling of the green and the gold lace is MUCH EVIDENT!!

    Ray,

    Thanks! The slight blur may be a bit of hand shake or it may be due to the fact that I resized the image, thereby degrading the quality. I'm just happy I got my camera to stop overexposing and washing the color out!

    Jason
