    Received this mounted bust today.

It arrived in a plain brown box.

Parts were divided into two plastic bags inside the box with a lot of bubble wrap and newspaper packing to protect the figure.

There are approximately 15 major parts in addition to 41 separately molded feathers.

Some of the feathers are on one sprue; others come 3 and 4 to a sprue.

There are also several other small accessories molded on sprue such as arrows and harness rope.

There are also 32 very small strings that, by the photos posted earlier in this forum, are attached in various places on the figure. They are very fine and will be difficult to remove from the sprue without damage.

The two harness ropes are also very fine and have already been damaged in shipping. Nothing I can’t fix though.

The horse is mounted on a very substantial base. I’m not sure if I will use it or design my own.

There are two different shields provided but based on the photos the smaller one is a decoration for the base.

Based on comparison of the head to other busts I have the scale seems to be 1/9 or 1/10.

The sculpting is excellent with a lot of fine detail. The molding is also very good with some minor flashing and mold marks which are easily removed.

There are no photos included in the kit so you will have to use the ones posted earlier as a guide to construction.

There is no painting guide but there a plenty of reference materials out there to use. Overall, it is a beautiful but complicated kit.

I can’t wait to get started on it.

Thanks for the photos and the initial review of this kit. Fabulous looking sculpt but it looks like a long and complex build.

Not my cup of tea but beautifully sculpted and cast. Interesting to see how his chest decoration is similar to an Hussar's.

Bone breastplate as below. Lots online, eg here and here:

More decorative status symbols than protective they could incorporate thin 'pipe bones'*, shells, quills, beads etc.

*seems that in the 1870s there was a run on corncob pipes so the stems could be re-purposed for such ornaments

You're a braver man than I am, Gunga Din! It will be fun to watch your progress. Good luck with it.
