Hi all, this is my latest piece, Bonapartes 300 mm Hussar 1793. I have painted him as a 'Mountain Hussar 1792', to get a more appealing colour scheme.
Actually found this harder to get right than the normal 1/9 or 1/10 sizes.
    Look forward to your opinions.

    Hi Ron!
By-Eck, .. @ 300mm! I am not surprised you found it harder! IMHO, the larger the scale, the more flaws, will/can be highlighted! .. To me this is Beautiful work, which I can look at time and time again! Your choice of colours, and clear in-depth research! have paid off! ... excellent work!(y)(y) ... Could you pass on your source of reference!

    Regards,

    Mark

That's a nice looking and well designed bust.... of course the painting isn't too shoddy either. ;) Nice work Ron and a good choice of regiment to depict.

Very nice work, and I think the colors in the pictures 1 -4 doing your work justice.

Brilliant depiction of this great bust Ron.
Interesting that you found 300mm more difficult, it doesn't show Mate.
    Your brushwork here is awesome.

Many thanks for your kind words Keith.
What I meant, was that shading needs to be more subtle at this scale, otherwise it overpowers the detail IMHO. Suited the technique I use well tho. Quite a large piece to handle while painting compared to the normal scales.

I totally agree Ron, these days I tend toward the larger figures and harsh contrast goes out of the window.

I find it difficult to know when to stop sometimes. That's where my personal technique comes from. It allows me to 'pre-shade', which in turn stops me over doing it.

A large face, brown and red on the same piece?

You´ve made a great job on the hardest mode! Congrats! (y)

Ron, could you take a picture, a simple one, with a bottle of Vallejo on the side, to get a size notion?

Hi John, much appreciated. He is by far the biggest bust I have worked on.
Strangely enough, he is similar in height to the 200 mm Cuirassier, although I regard that as a half figure more than a bust.

    Cheers
