Bandai is a great platform to assemble a model quickly, then do some painting and weathering effects, experimenting with a new style of technique, and if not completely successful at least you've got practice without investing too much...

Behold, the Gundam Guntank, a tracked chassis with a top half of a robot/ Gundam, with 4 barrelled guns instead of hand manipulators.

Slung on the shoulders are a pair of large cannon.

The experiments were of doing a black basing, with a mottled paint over the top (in light grey).

Plus rusted caterpillar tracks, still functional though.

Black basing is spraying a black (or very dark colour) undercoat, then spraying a thinned top coat of a the layer in a mottled way. To reflect the way that paint will fade and wear semi-unevenly. First promoted by Doogs Models, it has been around for a few years now, and is a choice of paint style, but not the only style.
The tracks were painted in a brown primer, then Life Color Rust dark brown (flicked on with a brush, so lots of spots, rather than applied with a brush or air brush. Then a second lighter rust colour applied with another fleck/ splatter type, very light and semi controlled.
The polished metal was a 2B pencil, and the pencil was rubbed on a artists blending stump, then the blending stump was used to apply and buff the graphite on the tracks raised parts.
It's a click together kit, so you wont be test fitting; how do these parts fit together "Click" and now they are joined forever.... so be aware of that if you want to modify ahead of time.
Definitely a great little kit. Would recommend.
