    I give up on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd thing (I don't like headaches).
Al I can see is a very well painted horse etc.

Its been a while since last update , progress has been slow due to work commitments and old age :D

This is the third rider for the third horse "Del" :D a lot of work done here that is not apparent , the arm with the raised sabre has been on and off three times as i was not happy with the shoulder position but think it is just about right now . body was angled to lean forward also . Although happy with the head position I would prefer the mouth to be open , just trying to pluck up the courage to take the scalpel to this quality casting  tried a historex head with open mouth but did not look right as the scale is a bit out .
He is only sat on a practise horse for pics . IMG_2102.JPG IMG_2104.JPG

Saw this today and it's moved along from the first photo.
All I can say is that the photo does it no justice at all.
A beautifully painted horse by any measure.
    Cheers

Well the third rider of the third horse needs his mooth open as we say in Glasgow. so just cut away the bottom half of Captain Mahnes's chin which is the head i'm using ,
hope I can remodel it to a shouting face
I got the historex head set with expressions but they seem a little small to use .
I will fit one into A historex colpac and rework the headdress with the Pyro tool when I get one or due it with a heated needle over a candle .
Many moons have come and gone since I have done this type of converting.
I remember one used to put plastic sprue into a bottle with some volatile essence obtained from the chemist " think it might have been acetone "

What do you thicken out your historex horse halves with.

The base that comes with the kit.

Ron I just draw around the inner shape of one half onto the base, cut and glue,
then glue the second half anf fill the odd gap

    Hi Ron

It's looking good. I'm behind a bit with postings...

Firstly I think the needle over the candle isn't a good idea - so buy the pyrogravure from the supplier suggested in the other post.

For my platic soup I use a liquid cement jar filled with sprue from historex and I used to use Winsor and Newton's "Winsol" paint remover product which they don't seem to make anymore, presumably as a few good sniffs can get you in a happy place. Luckily I have a last bottle in stock... for modelling use of course.

I use the historex bases or 10 though plastic card to thicken out historex horses and add shims until it looks right for whatever idea I have bouncing aorund inside my demented mind. Bill Ottinger and Shep Paine's books have good artocles on this.

    Cheers

    Hi Huw
It's getting harder to get volatile potions these days , you can't even get decent weedkiller anymore :) everything is watered down to the stage that it hardly works

Yea I have Ottingers book courtesy of Del , some good points in it although a bit dated these days, Shep Paine's book I misplaced a long time ago .

Oh ok then. If I lived nearer I'd let you have some of mine.

MEK is what you pay for as bottled thin polystyrene cement.

Every form of this is flammable, so I decant into smaller airtight brush applicator bottles.
I have some yellow and black tape that I wrap round a new bottle
so I don't mistake it for anyhting else.

Just store the excess in a well ventilated space, garden shed is ideal.

The stories I could tell about plastic sprue and carbon tetrachloride........:wacky: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, as one or two of us almost discovered:notworthy:
I still have a little drop of good old Winsol left, but some of the newer plastic glues don't work as well, and quickly dry out, even well-sealed. Plus ca change.
