The latest release from Spira Mirabilis. Product came well packed. Sculpting is imaginative and excellent. Fitment is perfect. No prep required other than to wash and prime
the parts.

Hi there Mr W

Liking the loaf of bread ....tasty , those horns look good so far ...there's not too much face showing so won't take too much to get done

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Don't run into many mercenary dwarfs these days.

Try living in Cornwall.

Nice bread work. I feel a bit peckish now.

Great start. I'll be following with great interest
I'm waiting for mine to arrive anytime now. :)

No mercenary dwarves or fisherman's friends here, but there were a lot of Viking's

No but you do run into Fisherman's Friends! And Poldark and Doc Martin tourists. I was fortunate to see the Fisherman's Friends in Port Isaac a few years ago
"Oh a drop of Nelson's blood.... " '...never did us any harm...'
Thanks, Darby. The big decision: rye or white?
White, thick sliced with salty butter.

Mine arrived this morning, superbly cast.
Going to have to use my loaf painting it.

Face and Beard
The face is small but it gave me the devil of a time. It's ok but nothing to write home about. I'll probably re-visit it later.

The beard is orange - oh boy is it orange! A little bit of time on the google machine indicated a fantasy dwarf commonly has this bright orange hair and beard color. To be honest I'd like to have seen a little more sculpted detail in the beard to create the illusion of hair. That not being the case I attempted to create that illusion with color.

The base is AK Interactive's AK3032 Strong Ocher. The highlights are Vallejo's 70.953 Flat Yellow. After laying down the base and adding the highlights, and because the ocher is translucent, I went over the whole beard with ocher a few more times to tone down the yellow. After that I hit the bust with a homemade dark wash and..............
VIOLA!! What you see is what you get.

I know what you mean about the hair, more detail would've been good. I also found the lack of detail on the beard of his Merlin piece.
Must be down to Lucas's style of sculpting.
However you're detailing has worked well.

Dwarven Armor
You may notice that our dwarf's armor has a slight blue-ish cast. Dwarven armor, proven in battle to have protective qualities superior to any other type of armor is highly sought after. The blue tint is thought to be the result of the Dwarven steel making process although the actual process itself is unknown and remains a closely held Dwarven secret.

Nice tint. I use oil based pastels for doing something similar on aircraft and armour modelling. What Dwarven sorcery lies behind your method?

Thanks, Darby. My secret (all acrylic) is simple. I used a blue wash over Vallejo oiled steel to create the effect. (Shhh, don't tell anyone. It's a secret.)
