A Mother Not Yet Six Years Old ...!

In March 1939, the little Peruvian Lina Medina ...

... admitted to the hospital in the small Peruvian town of Pisco with the suspicion of a large tumor in the abdominal area.

When the doctors examine the little girl in detail, they initially neither want to trust their eyes nor their test results:

Line Medina is not yet six years old - and seven months pregnant!

The doctors gave birth to the child by caesarean section on May 14, 1939 - and the mother, born on September 23 or 27, 1933 in Ticrapo in the Huancavelica region, was the youngest child to give birth at the age of five years and seven months Medical history!

Your child - christened Gerardo - weighs 2,700 grams at birth and is normally developed.

A detailed examination of Lina's did not reveal any abnormalities. However, her medical history reveals that she should have had her first menstruation at the age of two - a reason for this cannot be determined.

Lina cannot (or does not want to) provide any information about the child's father or the circumstances of her conception.

The police take their father Tiburelo Medina (on the next picture together with daughter Lina and grandson Gerardo later) ...

... arrested on suspicion of rape and incest, but has to release him for lack of evidence.

The medical sensation was reported around the world at the time ...

... and "representatives" of all possible obscure "organizations" are scrambling to bring Lina and her baby abroad and to market both there - "for the good of both" - as profitably as possible.

Her father, who is also hoping for money for himself, signs all kinds of contracts, but all attempts by the "representatives" to seize the mother and child are prevented by the hospital doctors - above all Dr. Gerardo Lozada, who gave birth to the child pf an child...:

At one point, Dr. Lozada even called the Peruvian government for help, because a "charitable" organization had come to an agreement with Lina's father, Tiburelo Medina, to exhibit mother and child at the upcoming 1939/40 World Exhibition in New York.

    Yes to exhibit!

Dr. It is also Lozada who organizes the future for mother and child:

Lina is raised (and promoted) by an emphatic Peruvian family in the capital Lima, her son Gerardo initially stays with his grandparents (he is a boy, there is no fear of sexual abuse there) until he too comes to Lima and has daily contact with his mother who sees him as a "little brother".

The hospital doctor also finances Lina's training to become an office assistant and later employs it in his practice.

Lina Medina now lives with her husband Raul Jurado in Chicago Chico (Little Chicago), an "informal settlement" (that is the politically correct word for "slum") in the Lima area. She doesn't give interviews.

Her son Gerardo (who only found out when he was ten that Lina was not his sister, but his mother) ...

... died in 1979 at the age of 40 from a bone disease; no connections were found between the young age of his mother at the time of his birth and his illness.

Interesting post Martin. Such nice folk out there, seeking to make a buck out of it all too.
