Hi to one and all on PF ,

With life in general seeming to get in the way of everything it seems to have calmed down giving me a chance to get back doing what I like ...sharing a bit of Resin with you all in Reviews , and what better one to start with than a release from Life Miniatures .

What is it we will be looking at ...an iconic subject has been chosen by Sang-Eon from Life Miniatures it is of course Marilyn Monroe

    Marilyne 001.jpg

What can be said about a woman born in 1926 on June at Norma Jeanne Mortenson whose mother worked as a film cutter at the RKO studios who was widowed and mentally ill , putting her child into a series of foster homes , not a good start but she was a fighter and eventually found fame in films and after a number of small parts hit the big time launching her to international stardom in the film in 1953 called Gentleman Prefer Blondes , this lead to in 1955 The Seven Year Itch as well as getting married and divorcing the baseball player Jo DiMaggio in the same year of 1955 , marrying the playwright Arthur Miller in 1956.

Playing in the film Bus Stop in 1956 she showed she could play dramatic roles , she had a year off in 1958 returning to the studios to star in the comedy Some Like It Hot alongside Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis .
    Oaaa.jpg Oaa.jpg 0a.jpg
Making a total of only 30 films in year life she did I feel just wanted to be loved , this she certainly was the case when as part of the USO tour she entertained the troops in Korea in 1954 and this is the chosen depiction of Marilyn in Life Miniatures release.
    00000.jpg 0000.jpg 000.jpg
In August 1962 , a day that began with threatening calls to her on the 4th , being visited the next day by her doctor who is quoted as saying "he thought she felt rejected by those close to her" on the morning of the 5th she was found dead in her bed as a result of a drug overdose ...a so so sad and lonely end to a beautiful woman and a true legend.........

    0.jpg aa.jpg a.jpg aaaaa.jpg aaa.jpg aaaa.jpg aaaaaa.jpg

Marilyn had many books in her house 0000000.jpg 000000.jpg ........so its right that she has been the subject of many here are a few , all recommended reading 00000000.jpg 00000.jpg 0000.jpg 000.jpg 00.jpg

Lets see what we are looking at today:

Title : 'Bye Bye Baby' Marilyn Monroe in Korea for her USO tour 1954

    Reference: LM-B013

    Scale: 1/10

    Material: Resin

    No of parts: 3

    Sculptor: Sang-Eon Lee

    Box Art: Sang-Eon Lee

Life Miniatures have only been in our world for just over 2 years and what a veritable whirlwind of a journey they have taken us on......many subjects all looked forward to in anticipation and excitement .

The excitement begins for me when viewing the distinctive box from this release , , satin black in colour woth superb colour reproductions on the top and the sides , just these providing great references .

    Marilyne 001.jpg

On opening the box we find the pieces safely sandwiched between the usual foam inserts , protecting the precious resin. the model consists of the torso , the head, and the base , just 3 but WOW what some pieces . Marilyne 002.jpg

Lets begin with the largest of them the torso, our blonde bombshell is depicted with the flying jacket over her shoulders with her left arm peeking out holding the coat just below the collar .
    Marilyne 004.jpg Marilyne 005.jpg Marilyne 006.jpg
    Marilyne 007.jpg
Prep needed on this is just the removal of a easy to get to casting plug on the underside leaving you with as with all of the subjects I have reviewed from LM a super smooth and in this case totally blemish free surface
    Marilyne 003.jpg

Let us begin our USO tour by looking at what Marilyn is wear under the jacket , Marilyne 004.jpg as seen in many pictures she was a fine looking woman with great assets , these are wonderfully shown by the sculptor in a figure hugging polo neck jumper , the actual neck part is very clean and very expertly cast ready to receive the head , the folds on the jumper itself are great all is the very correct places in relation to the position and action of the hand ...a pleasure to see !!! Marilyne 008.jpg Marilyne 009.jpg

After that and a long cold shower!!!! lets now go to the coat she is wearing draped over her shoulders , starting with the collar, the treatment of the fur is as with the Monty bust spot on , wonderful surface texture Marilyne 012.jpg

The material itself of the jacket is as we expected another awesome bit of work with my comments about the folds etc also applying here , particularly at the back and the way the loose sleeves hang against the sides , also you will note the great details on the seams themselves . The pockets themselves are gems to view , the pencil/pen pocket has the tag for the zip .

    Marilyne 007.jpg Marilyne 006.jpg Marilyne 005.jpg Marilyne 011.jpg Marilyne 010.jpg

The coat has the large unit badge on the left upper front of the jacket, a perfect circle , blank , this is I feel a good choice allowing the painter a clean surface to paint the design on ...a challenge yes but what an end result you will have.
On the box art Sang - Eon has painted the Air Force badges on the upper left sleeve, these are no patches on the casting for these but again patience( and a lot of coffee in my case) will result in another flurry of colour .

Now then lets look at a beautiful woman's head , prep needed a simple removal of the casting plug from the underside of the neck , once done fit is perfect.

Sculpting is totally fabulous , we see Marilyn smiling , showing her teeth with those lovely lips and a mass of blonde hair .......this is without doubt showing off the skill that Sang - Eon has in sculpting faces particularly difficult if it is such a well known person ..has he achieved this ...YOU BET HE HAS.....to be honest I am blown away by how much talent we are seeing here.

Facial features are spot on from her cheeks to her chin , the mouth area and the way the nose has been worked together with the eye details ..I m expecting her to talk its that good!!!!

    Marilyne 016.jpg Marilyne 018.jpg Marilyne 017.jpg Marilyne 015.jpg Marilyne 014.jpg Marilyne 013.jpg

The hair is exactly as our icon wore it , great renditioning of the hair, the curls , the position, it just seems to flow , really beautiful work ...the challenge is of course to paint it in her hair colour of blonde.......the result ...a wonderful hairstyle....epitomising Marilyn ...a blonde bombshell.

    Marilyne 021.jpg Marilyne 015.jpg

The base itself is as with others from LM a simple pedastal , slight sanding round the edges and after a tight fit into the recess underneath ...I dont normally use bases supplied preferring a brass rod but these in the releases are that good it would be silly not to ..but as I say pin it to the actual display bases of wood.

    Final Thoughts

This is yet another amazing release from Life Miniatures , superbly sculpted , well presented and with equally amazing box art . Personalities are without doubt a big challenge to get right ..has Sang - Eon achieved it ......without a doubt

A Challenge in the painting but after the enjoyment of purchasing and then painting it the end result will be total satisfaction.

Thanks to Life Miniatures for the review model and to you all for looking in

Thank you so much Nap, another stellar review, and what an incredible sculpt and paint, the bar has been raised again by Sang-Eon Lee, I'd thought about it as soon as I saw the bust but I doubt I'll be able to do her justice, yet.

Thanks for another great review Kevin. This one is of particular interest to me for a couple of reasons. Not least because I think Mrs Jazz is getting me one of these for my birthday next month. Thanks for all the great photos to work from.
