Some serious painting there no doubt!The setting is awesome and the figure too.Having said that let me add a note on historical accuracy that in no way does it affect the painter (Firestorm) who has clearly done a terrific job.The miniature is based on a painting (following the Orientalistic/Romantic movement) whose painter had never met Markos Botsaris.General Botsaris had made a name gor himself as a leader of men in the Greek revolution of 1821 and for that he was much beloved in France (there still exists in Paris a rue de Botsaris) but the painter never actually met with him.What the painter also never did was visiting Greece itself.His travels took him in the middle east,mainly in Syria.So he based his painting on what he had seen i.e Arabian-Syrian gentlemen of status and their surroundings.For that reason although the painting claims to depict Markos Botsaris (one of modern Greece's national heroes) it does so only in the painter's mind, where apparently all eastern mediterranean cultures are identical!The excellent painting of Firestorm does justice to the original painting and there is no doubt about that.It is true to an original painting which in turn is not true to its historical subject.
