    Hi guys,

Here's a lovely vignette called "Man's Best Friend" sculpted by my good mate (and fellow WW1 nut) Dan Morton.

As you can see, the vignette is based on an illustration of a WW1 Tommy in the trenches sharing a moment with his loveable canine companion, while writing a letter home. It's a moment of peace and tenderness in the midst of carnage and horror. The title of the illustration is "Give her my love".

I've base coated most of the scenic base and some of the figure, and will begin the serious work on painting the figure this weekend.

That's really a great scene from the terrible war.
I think you can do this justice.

Hi guys, thanks to all of you who posted comments. My apologies for not acknowledging your comments sooner.;)

It's been a while since I updated this WIP, but rest assured I haven't been slacking off.:)

Here are the latest progress pics of "Man's Best Friend".

I've done some more highlighting and shading on the figure and the dog, but the base is taking a long time to get right. Dan has sculpted so much detail into this vignette and I want to do it all justice.

Hey Dan, did I say I'd have this ready for you by the end of November??? Sorry mate, looks like this could be a 2010 project.:eek::eek:

A very touching story line. And the viewer gets the "message" immediately.
Well, done Tony. Like the others I will follow this SBS with much interest.

Hi Dan, Ken, John, Mitsutaka, Stefano and Rick,

Thanks for following my slow progress on this lovely vignette.

When Dan asked me to paint it for him I was honoured and rather stupidly suggested I could have it ready for him in one month. That was 2 months ago.

With my Falklands Marine almost finished I intend to crack on with this vignette over the coming weeks and hope to have it finished early in January.

They key is to make a strong connection between the Tommy and his canine companion, and then finish all the little details to bring it all together.
