A.JPG B.JPG C.JPG D.JPG E.JPG F.JPG G.JPG H.JPG I.JPG Slight modification to the sculpture from Victor Konnov. I have replaced the original naginata blade with a yari. Also, in order to not lose the emphasis on the figure itself, the base was kept relatively simple and represented in monochrome earth tones. Finally, the name chosen does not refer to maikos (geishas) but to a japanese give name.

    Very impressive!

How did you get the red honeycomb pattern so regular? I think that is even more difficult than the koi.

    Agree there

Wonder if the hexagonal shapes were airbrushed over a stencil or hand painted ....either way the patterns are great

Thanks to Alex for supporting FOTM

Look forward to seeing more from his bench

    Happy benchtime

    Hi Adrian
The kikko pattern was indeed a pain to paint
    1) primer coat
    2) basecoat of burnt umber
    3) basic highlighting and shadowing
    4) using thin masking tape, paint some thin parallel lines all over : you move the tape as you go
    5) rotate the tape and do the same : the angle of rotation is critical, otherwise, the hexagons will not be regular
    6) final rotation of the tape : at this stage it will look like a mess but you have now enough lines to define each hexagon completely by applying final lights and shadows
