many thanks for the wonderful comments guys.

Nap yes he was quite happy for me to post it but he says he is not looking until its finished

Malc i may have to do another one for Euro, its a great figure to paint

If anyone is interested in the colours i used for the braiding, they are
Base coat of Mocha brown, which is a sort of reddish brown
    Then Citadel Tallarn sand
    Highlight with Citadel Zamesi dessert
further highlights with Golden sun yellow added to the Zamesi dessert
Finally white for the very tops

Really really nice. I don't know how you paint in stages like that. I wouldn't have the nerve to break the blue and then try to March the colour and shading. The model is brilliant! And thx for the NMM colours.

Cheers Colin, its just a way i have for painting, it all seems to blend in eventually

Malc your on. i have another kit so ill have it done for Euro BTW what are you doing

I thought that as i had put up the list of colours i used for the NMM i might as well do a small SBS to show how they were used, first this is not the be all of NMM, just my way and im still learning

I always base coat parts that are going to be painted in NMM black, i think this makes it pop out from the background

Once that had dried i used Mocha brown for the first layer, i have more or less dry brushed these colours on so that the black cross detailing shows through
    [IMG]

The next colour is the Citadel Tallarn sand, dry brushed on from top to bottom so the the top edges of the braiding get the paint

I gave this about 3 runs of dry brushing and then painted in the edges

The next colour was Citadel Zamesi dessert, again dry brushing on the top edges

I then used Golden sun with the paint quite thin, (milky) and went over the highest points

And for the final runs white, firstly with the paint milky on the very top edges, then when thats dry with the paint a bit thicker and just adding highlight dots here and there on the top edges

this will be left to dry properly now and then adjust if needed

hope that was useful to some

Thanks so much for the SBS. I will be trying this method on some Crimean figures I have on the way. This is a brilliant paint job thus far, my congratulations

Like the NMM work and the SBS. Gonna try to "translate" it into oil paint.

Many thanks Marc, i would say, being an ex oily, it would be straight forward in oils, brown and yellow sandy colours (y)

    Hi guys ,

Now this is a true work of art IMO , the NMM looks great and a really cracking SBS ...will be trying these colours probably on the bust of this subject from MMM.

This is a really enjoyable thread packed full of great comments from everyone ...with an end that not only is to die for but also really brings the figure to life......

I must have gone back over this thread loads of times always getting something new

    Nice one

As always any comments welcome, the boots appear brown on the pics, possiblt overdone the highlighting, but they do look like worn leather on my bench, ill look at them ove the next few days and may change them

Beautiful work on a beautiful figgie Paul. And a generous lesson in NMM too.
