Better and better. :)(y) Thank you again.

Do you, or anyone else for that matter, have any idea what pattern rifle the figure is holding?

    It's most probably a Gras Mle 1874.

Not sure which type is sculpted with the figure, I'll have to dig out mine to see.

There's a lot more information here if you have the will and the time to spend. ;)

    Assembled and primed.
As you can see from the photo a tiny bit of putty is required where the right arm joins the torso but apart from that fit of parts was perfect.
I have now done that bit of filling, all that remains to do now is paint it!

Looking good except the hand holding the rifle seems to need some cleaning around the fingers.
See what happens when you post high resolution pictures? :D

:D Thanks, looking through the magnifier that's hard to spot! I'll give the fingers a sand and no more hi-res pics. :playful:

The Macedonomachoi(plural) were equipped through an underground network by the commisariat of the Greek Royal(at the time) Army.At the time the rifle in use was the Gras, among others.Of course everything that came in handy was utilised. For instance I have in my collection a picture of a Peabody-Martini belonging to a Macedonomachos that's been extensively and heavily customised by the use of bronze sheet, intricately chiselled and engraved. The cape he is wearing can be painted to depict a traditional shepperd's item of clothing made of a kind of goat's hair felt.It is still being worn by sheep or goat herders up in the mountains of Greece. It is usually black or dark grey, waterproof by default, extremely protective against the cold but a nuisance in warmer weather.Goat's hair is very tough, almost needle-like.My late grandmother used such an item as matting on a portable campaign bed(grandfather's memento from his service days in WWII) and no matter how many sheets or fabrics she put on top, the goat's hair always managed to find their way to my back.If you have to survive the harsh winter weather of the mountains of northern Greece though such an item could be indispensable.Your Macedonomachos looks great already.Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Thank you very much for your interesting post Oda.
I am not so familiar with goat hair clothing, however I have met a few Greek goats.
    These are on Rhodes. :D

Looks good Roger.I'm looking forward to seieng how you tackle this figure.

Excellent comment about goats too by Oda - a nice roast or curried kid (young goat NOT child as I've given up cannibalism some time ago) is one of my favourite meals.

    Cheers
