    I have just seen on the news that Harry Patch aged 111, the last English WW1 veteran has died. Harry fought at Passchendaele and Ypres but thankfully lived to see better times.

    I will be sure to wear a red poppy on my suit coat today in honor and respect.

    Mr. Patch, where ever you are, you did good!

    If I should die, think only this of me:
    That there's some corner of a foreign field
    That is forever England. There shall be
    In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
    A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
    Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam;
    A body of England's, breathing English air,
    Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
    And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
    A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
    Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
    Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
    And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
    In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

    This is a very sad day!

    There is only one hero left now, Claude Choules (please forgive if I have spelt his name incorrectly), He lives in Perth Australia. When the sad day arrives, that we hear of the passing of Claude, the events of the great war will pass from living memory and become history.

    My only wish is that the sacrifice of these great men and there genration is never forgotten, I wish this section of history was taught in our schools so the younger generation could appreciate what these men gave for us all.

    RIP and thank you Harry Patch! You were a proud and noble man until the end!!

    thanks for this. Showed it to my daughter and spent a brilliant couple of hours talking about her great grandfather. He was a docker in the Glasgow yards, a lovat scout, got shot in both legs in the gallipoli campaign and an altogether bit of a wide boy.
    But like most of that generation there was a prevailing sense of duty.
    Regards
    Derek
