    Hi everyone

Following on from my review here:

    https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/landsknecht-from-castle-miniatures.192081/

......this looked at the standing figure in the set , being part 1 of 2 figures in the set

This review will look at the 2nd figure and prone figure lying on the ground itself , ready to meet his maker .

The shipping was fast and well packed but obviously you will get them in the box when you purchase the set ( The Partners )

    Lets look at the resin

Consisting of 7 pieces , the larger base the full torso less lower legs , right arm and head all of which are cast onto separate resin formers , there is also a sword scabbard

    Castle landsnecht 001.jpg

    Prep

Torso .....small casting line underneath ( although this does not show when in place )

Lower legs....remove from formers and fit before putting torso to base , tiny bit of filler needed

Arm......As with the lower legs , slight flashing between fingers...a sharp craft knife will suffice for this

Head...Remove from former and fit to neck area ... filler required for a air hole on the lower left neck

Scabbard...Remove from former and fit to position on left hip

Base....Remove 2 casting plugs from rear and sand around edges

A lot of words really for what is extremely minimal prep needed so well done to the casting team

    General Comments

    • A quality resin has been used , holding details well
    • Definition is excellent
    • Fit is as expected ...very very good
    Lets look at the pieces

    Torso

Sculpted prone with his legs raised and bent up at the knees , the head slightly raised when in pace

Wearing the slashed clothing in different styles on the legs and ribbons of slashing on the upper arms

Around the waist a sash with very sharply worked bow , a belt and buckle working its way from this

The lower part of his clothing at the waist is scalloped in shaping , good undercuts are evident everywhere , there is also the lacing that attached the leggings to the small shorts worn at this time

The left arm and hand rests to his chest ...underneath a wound perhaps

Moving up just below the cloak he wears around his shoulder we have bag of money , nicely detailed

The cloak is full of folds again well worked

The knees show a ripped area , this guy has been on campaign for a while !!

Legs are bent at the knees underneath locating holes for the lower legs

And of course we have a full and shapely cod piece !!!

In the centre of the torso we have cutout into which fits the shtanding figure as in the first review

The rear of the resin is flat with no detail that not going to be shown when in position on base

Fit to the base is really accurate and no filler is needed

    Head

Another fine sculpt , a older man with no hair but a fine beard , details on the head is sharp and as good as ever , the mouth is open exposing the teeth ( with a gap ) , the expression is one of pain , eyebrows raised , viens straining on either side of his temples , facial features are spot on

Castle landsnecht 014.jpg Castle landsnecht 017.jpg

Castle landsnecht 016.jpg Castle landsnecht 015.jpg

In the box the head and arm are on the same former , I split them for pictures

    Castle landsnecht 013.jpg

    Arm

Raised up the hand pleading for mercy , fingers outstretched , long and bony in features , slightly apart , again veins are straining , the lower sleev has good folds and creases

Fit is accurate to the torso

Castle landsnecht 018.jpg Castle landsnecht 019.jpg

    Lower legs

Again highly sculpted , folds and creases are well done and we have torn area as well , the shoes are the wide fronted with slashed uppers , again well defined

    Fit again easy and accurate

Castle landsnecht 011.jpg Castle landsnecht 012.jpg

    Scabbard

Fitting easily to the left hip , small straps wrap around the top edge matching the torso sword straps

    Castle landsnecht 021.jpg

    Base

Oval in shape , textured , cast onto the base is the cape itself , well worn and torn at the edges , good folds as well , at the upper base part there is the cap that has come off the head

Included in the base is the thing these soldiers valued most ...money ...in the shape of coinage falling out of a bag with a drawstring ...nice touch , enveloped in the cloak on the right there is his sword ...now sadly useless to him , even though its nearly hidden the work on the handle is good

Lets have a couple detailed shots I cropped from pics from the website as well:

    Final Thoughts

A great figure that shows a lot of sculpting skill , casting as good as ever from Castle Miniature , painting will bring out te excellent detail work

Together with the standing figure its a great vignette ...and as colourful as you want

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Nice to see the final part in your review Nap. It does go to show just how detailed this kit is and just how much care and attention went into creating it.
This really will make a great scene without any other additions needed.

Great totally thorough review of what seems to be a top quality kit and of course the exceptional painting showing the finished result makes this one very hard to resist, stunning.
