I have made a start to this project with the painting of the backdrop,i have already posted pictures of the construction of this in an earlier posting.
Undercoating of the walls were done in an off white acrylic colour followed by lighting the top edges of every brick with neat acrylic white.
I then added a sepia oil stain to the whole brick area and gentle dabbed the excess off with a sponge.
I then decided to add dirt or mud to the walls, for this I used a small amount of pollyfilla mixed with white glue and sepia oil paint,i then applied this to specific areas of the wall.
one change I did make from the first post was the addition of 2 small window type openings, these were very common in these types of rural buildings, the reason I added these was to give the feeling of further KGL troops firing through the openings at the French trying to assault the building.
I sratchbuilt a couple of musket ends and tempary fixed them into the openings.
Many artists depicting the assaults on La Haye Sainte have added these little touches and I liked the idea of adding here.
There is still quite a bit to do,priming of the figure I will complete next week,i removed the bayonet for the time being as I didn't want to risk breaking it.

Nice idea Brian.....but I reckon those ventilation slots should be a bit lower and a little more vertical than horizontal so a soldier could aim his weapon.
When you consider the figure out the window is meant to be standing, the soldiers firing below are too high imo.
Their heads would be between the knees of the main soldier out the window......cheers.

What! Another one ? Where did this spring from, Brian? And what's more, WHY wasn't I told? I must have missed the original construction posts, but again, this is an inspirational piece of work, and I take my hat off to you, Brian:happy: I shall now pay more attention to posts.

You're welcome Brian, one the great things about this forum is the opportunity to get a fresh perspective from other members on a piece you're working on.
Sometimes we can miss stuff which others can pick up with a fresh pair of eyes.......cheers.
