Well, as usual, I'm painting a figure, and it's not quite going as I want it, so, I've put the figure aside to let it grow on me, and I'm doing something different to clear the mind.....

I know Jim. My parents warnt me about this. It starts with a small tank when you're a kid they said. But then, you need bigger tanks. And paint. and that is just the beginning, soon, that won't be enough. You'll be introduced to photo-etch. You'll want an airbrush. You'll crave resin conversions. Large scale figures. Busts. And then, in the end, there'll be planes...

Instrument panel is done.

Seat is done too, not gone over the top with the painting, to be honest, at 1/72 you can't really see much once it's inside and closed up .



The base plastic kit is shocking quality, detail is soft as, fit is "approximate"... . The exhausts lack definition and one has not so much "flash", as solid lumps of plastic in-between.



What saved the kit, and probably got Eduard interested in using it, was the very nice surface panel engraving. A thin wash should make that pop right out.

Well this is the first time I've ever watched an aircraft thread, haven't built one since my early teens. The issue with the exhausts, is that down to the age of the molds or just bad mold making?

Well, seeing as all of the plastic detail is really soft, and there are no locating pins anywhere, I presume that Eduard just cheaped out on the plastic base kit. I don't think it's an old mold, the surface engraving is really fine. It's just that the detail of so many other parts is really soft.
Fitting the fuselage halves together was fun. No locating pins, so you need to line up very well, and then try to apply some Tamiya Super Thin along the seam. Doing it bit by bit worked, but some filling and sanding will be nessecary.

I don't normally build planes either, I have a few in the stash, one built, but got stuck in the painting phase.
I inherrited a few kits from the late Father in Law, he liked models, mainly cars, trucks and planes. I build the 1:24 Hurricane for him, before he passed away, and have another two in the stash. I also bought two 1:32 Matchbox Lysander kits ( I know.... I bought one when I was a kit, I remember how freaking big it was then, and want to build another one, but now with my added skills).

I did the 1/32nd Messersmitte as a lad, yeah it was enormous, then I went and joined the army, all my modelling funds were required as beer tokens!

That's it for this week, back to work tomorrow. Closed up the fuselage and fitted the wings. Bit of a fav, much holding parts in position and applying plenty of pressure, but it got there in the end.

You're not alone. It's nice to have a change of pace sometimes. And you've made a tidy job of this one so far.
I made my aircraft wishlist over a number of years.
Then called a halt.
Enjoy the plane. Maybe post a few more, if it doesn't get you sanctioned of course!

Clothes pegs and loom bands are handy.

Living so close to an airport, albeit Farnborough Airfield I'll leave the model airplanes in my past, do love the detail that goes into them though. They do say a change is as good as a rest though.
