Here is my latest work. It is the Jeff Shiu 200MM offering of the MG34 gunner. I'll probably nameplate this one as "Stalingrad MG34 Gunner" as he looks the part. Great sculpt in all areas I just did not like the method of assembling the right arm and the gun. Since the gun is cast in his right arm it has to be attached while your painting his uniform because of the way it attaches. It kinda attaches like it is a severed limb (those of you who have this figure know what I mean as I really can't explain it better than that) so you have to finish off the greatcoat with the MG attached which causes other problems and I just don't like painting like that. Other than that one dislike I really enjoyed him. A really nice figure to dirty up and make look really combat hardened. Groundwork was part of a resin wall I had left over from a previous kit and the bricks and other pieces or groundwork were carved from balsa foam. he is as always painted in Vallejo Acrylics, Citadel metallics and Windsor and Newton series 7 sable brushes.

Amazing work, Dan. You've painted it beautifully, and done a superb job on the ammo belts too - I know how tough it is to get those draped convincingly.
    Great job, mate!

You have achieved a beautiful piece of work, for such a large figure the detail is very well painted,I love the painted field grey greatcoat and the scene is great with the snow,I also love the face, lovely flesh tones.

This is the first one I have seen painted up,and what an act to follow ! Superb Dan,love the field grey and whites ... The groundwork really finnishes him off great !

I have him at the back of my bench and know what you mean Rgds the arms ... Jeff is a great sculptor and love his work but I was pretty shocked at that detail when I saw it and also the 34 has to be in place to paint, that for me took the shine off it initially but it is still a great figure. Did you brass pin your severed arms ?!

Also the face, the eye sockets are really deep and mine had holes in each corner of the eyes so had to do some work around these areas ... I think it's the left hand side helmet liner fixing is out compared to the right hand side one by a couple of mm so I re did these with Green Stuff and moved it to match the other side.

But I still love this first 200mm from Jeff, hopefully he will address the issues with future releases ...

    Great job bro !

Agree with you on all points Carlos and yes I did pin the arms for extra support. I did not notice the liner fastener while I assembled it but I see it now. Same deal with the eyes for me, in the inside corner of his right eye my whole brush tip fit into the hole you speak of. Still a great figure from an uber talented sculptor!

Nice painting Dan, just dont name it as stalingrad as its an SS belt buckle and they were not there !.

I suppose a 6th army soldier could have an SS belt buckle but unlikely he would . Esp as he could be captured very soon.

yea I know Stu. I realized that after the fact. I finally took a look at the figure box yesterday after somebody had pointed that out to me and it's titled "SS MG34 gunner". I never even paid it any mind. Thanks for the heads up.
