.....was the famous saying of Smith 70, Charley’s War (battle comics).

Started a 1/35 Vickers machine gun vignette based on a couple of my favourite characters from Charleys war, if you were/are a fan Smith 70 and young Albert could be found in many of the story lines with Charley Bourne.

The character Smith 70 created by the artist Jo Colquhoun is reportedly based on John Lennon from the film, “How I won the war”.

Smith 70 never let the young Albert have a go on the Vickers, it was “a bit technical” for him.

Thanks, no plans for old Bill, would be great if someone did a larger figure of him, with all those tattoos on show. :)

well worth checking out Charley’s War, with the images from Joe Colquhoun and story written by the great Pat Mills the godfather of British Comics, it was his first major story line teaming up with the best illustrator to make for what is now arguably the best comic story line of all time.

Rebellion have the story/image tights and their release is the finest print of that story.

    Excellent,

if you get a chance to read the Charley’s War it is by far the best of its genre, valiant, victor, commando and others were good but never quite captured the soldiers story in the same way.

A bit more putty sculpting using a mix of Magic Sculpt and Greenstuff, need to add more details before the figures are complete.

The Jerkin on young Albert has been created to give him more weight, like the original character. Smith 70s balaclava is about right, how I want him go look.

Hi Mario, I checked again and yes they are from Aber. The base figures are from ICM WW1 British Vickers Gun range, mixed with some of their British infantry.

Thanks mate, just keeping this a simple two figure vignette to show off the figures in a tight scene.

Nearly finished sculpting then refining the plastic.

I'm leaving off the spectacles till the face painting is complete, will add, fill any gap then paint the balaclava so will be a delicate operation.
