Issue with Iwata Compressor

    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this but will be happy to remove it if not... Had a bit of a problem when I tried to replace the hose that came with the compressor (Iwata Smart Jet) for a newer braided hose.

Problem: Both airbrushes work perfectly well with the original nylon hose. When I replace it with the braided hose, set the pressure to 2 bar and press the trigger, the air pressure falls to less than 1 bar. If I adjust the pressure to compensate, it drops to less than 1 bar again. Only happens with the new hose.

I've checked, and cant find any air escaping.... If anyone has any advice, I'll be very grateful to hear it!

I know this sounds silly, but have you actually cleaned out the new hose? What happens when you connect the hose to the compressor but not the airbrush and turn it on? Is the pressure low? It sounds to me like there might be something in the line/hose and maybe you can blow it out. This would also show if whatever the debris might be (little bits of rubber or etc.), moved into the airbrush. It could possibly be the brush and not the hose, but it sounds more like the hose.

    Hope this helps,

Many thanks for the reply engeee! I can feel air passing through the hose but good idea! I'm thinking it might be the adaptor that connects the hose to the compressor..... I noticed it didn't have an o ring. I'll try and find one that fits and see how it goes. Cheers!

You may be very surprised at what a difference an o-ring can make. Nothing leaking out with it in place.

Never used a airbrush but great info and help to the question

    Learning again about them !

Believe it or not...without an 'o' ring the air is depressurised back into the compressor...so that is the obvious answer.
Another thing to do...is to wrap some plumbers tape (PTFE) around the thread of the fitting to guarantee an airtight connection.
I am inclined to doubt the hose is blocked...but a simple trick to check is to put your finger over the open end...and release it and close it several times in quick succession.

Thanks kagemusha. Yeah, its bizarre :) I bought another hose (nylon but with an O ring) and still got the same result. The only hose that works is the one that came with it. There is definitely oddness occuring :D I'll keep plugging away at it....

Begins to point towards the airbrush itself IMHO

Nah, it happens with both my H&S and my Iwata.

    Strange indeed :wideyed:

Quick question...the original hose (Nylon) works fine...but the braided hose suffers a drop in pressure...yet another nylon hose and the problem remains (drop in pressure)...question being...how do the 3 hoses compare for outer and inner diameter?

What would also help are pictures of the hoses...each end of them at the airbrush and compressor...and the connectors themselves.
Also...does the compressor have more than one connecting point...i.e. does it offer the ability to run more than one airbrush simultaneously?

Thanks for the reply Kagemusha! Apologies, I've not been had much time for painting recently hence the late reply. I will get some images of the hoses up ASAP. Re the compressor, no, it has only one point of connection.
