    Hi Guys,

Just a few pics of a WIP on an old Roll Call(?) figure that I rescued from the box of figures I acquired earlier this year.

I know very little of this era and, to be honest, I'd never heard of a Gallowglass until I was researching colours. Apologies to any purists, but Ive just gone with the colours I saw on the pics on the WWW.

Painted in acrylics, some resculpting work done on the bat sleeves and the helmet to make it symmetrical, but other than that, a straight painting job! Just the broadsword to add and a bit of touching in here and there.

    Thanks for looking,

    Steve

Many thanks - It does look a bit like that doesnt it - maybe dispense with the sword and add a club and ball instead?!(y)

    Steve this is very nice.

It's probably also a nice change for you from the Victorians you have been working so hard with.

Thanks Paul - yep, a bit of a diversion for me! I still fancy doing a Border Reiver at some point, too..(y)

    Yeah me too.
I have done two mounted rievers for other people and
not been able to keep them for myself.:(

This one looks very familiar I am wondering if it's actually by Doug Miller for Mitrecap in the 80's. Is it 70-80mm?

Its 120mm scale, but closer to 140mm actual - the anatomy is a bit off, if I was being picky, but its painted up OK.(y)

I always worry about idealised proportions Steve.
    I am 5'11" tall.
But, according to my tailor, if my leg length was in proportion to my trunk I would be 6'3".
    go 'figure'.

Yeh, I agree - what's normal? That Artillery officer conversion is to the same scale, but there is a huge difference in height between the two figures - but then again, there's a huge difference in height when you look at a bus queue....!!(y)

    Nice painting!
I always missed that figure. Never had the chance to get it.
With the sword, the current "golf pose" will make sense. You'll see.
Hope there will be more box figures in the market soon.
    Kind regards,

    Iñaki

Thanks Inaki - that box of figures came "out of the blue" - an old guy I know who collects figures gave them to me to dispose of. I dont know if he's hiding any more!(y)

One of the most interesting Gaellic subjects of all times the galloglas and this one looks like the real deal.Looking forward to seeing it finished.

I have a very similar figure by Mitre Cap that is 75 mm. I don't know how historically accurate it is (supposedly they usually used axes). I always felt like the feet are too small, maybe the big sword is compensating for that.....

I think the figures are based on this pic, or vice versa - I dont know where it is from but does look similar to an Osprey-type illustration.

It's definitely a McBride but not Osprey I think.
