Hello everybody...

I finally finished this great 200mm bust from YS Masterpieces. It's part of their 1821 line of busts representing heroes (and some villains) of the Greek War of Independence. This is number 3 in a series of 5 that I have decided to do as a goal for this year. I love this sculpt (the face is very expressive) and had a great time painting it. The lacework/embroidery got a little tedious, but it's well worth the effort.

There is a WIP thread here that has a little bit of info on the skin tone palette used.

Please feel free to question/comment...

Regards,
Phil

Very,Very Nice....Very pleasing to the eye.....somewhere along the way here I wish I would have got it right..Braiding..Embroidery...lacework..?or whatever.

P.S.......I think I will call this guy "Lotta Weapons".

That turned out great Phil, really like what you did with the lacework. I think I need to paint this one myself.
Which one's next?

Thank you so much Roger! The next one in the series will be this guy - Athanasios Diakos:

The good news is that he has nowhere near the amount of embroidery/lacework that Makriyannis has; the bad news is that to make up for that, there is an incredible amount of freehand on the box art (again, by Cartacci) that I love, so I will have to go ahead and deal with all that...

Since I've been alternating every other project between a random figure and one of these busts, I won't get to him until I finish the project that I just started today. (Guan Yu - an amazing 90mm Chinese general from Alexandros Models).

Phil

Excellent painting Phil:).
The freehand work is especially mentionable(y).

Thank you Ralph; glad you like him. The freehand patterns were fun to do, and as I mentioned in my response to Roger, the next bust I do in this series will be almost entirely covered in much more elaborate freehands...wish me luck!!

Phil

Thanks for the kind words Wayne. Fortunately, this guy by far has the most of that braiding/embroidery/whatever in the entire series; I'm glad to have knocked it out. However, the next bust in the series (as mentioned above) has his own set of issues :)
Oh, and if you think this guy has a "Lotta Weapons", wait till you see the next guy (in this series)!
Regards,
Phil
