Here is a pic of my first attempt at painting a horse.
It is 54mm and painted with acrylics. If anyone has any constructive comments or hints & tips it will be greatly appreciated.
The blue shabraque is only base coated at the moment so ignore it :)
    Thanks for looking,
    Roger.

    Good work Roger,

If it was my horse i should highlight it more. It can be the picture that is not justify your painting.

Nicely done. (y) Everything does look nicely blended.
Painting horse can be a lot of fun with all the individuality in markings and such.
It looks like a nice sculpt too. Who makes it?

Nicely done, Roger! Any chance we could see the other side? Close up of the head?

    All the best,

    Hi Roger
Looking pretty good I use oils and you have managed to produce a finish that looks as if it is oil painted
Just a thought A white blaze on the face sometimes adds character to the horse but that is just me!
Looking forward to seeing the whole thing completed
For a first horse you have done really well as they can be a bit daunting
    Cheers

    Thanks for the comments folks.
Marc, could be the photo's. I took them outside today but it was a bit dull, I'll paint some more and take some more pics tomorrow and then we'll have another look with a possibility of highlighting some more.
Wendy, thank you, the horse is from Hecker and Goros.
Dan cheers mate, more pics including close ups tomorrow.
John, thanks, I was thinking of adding white socks and a blaze but didn't want to go too crazy on my first attempt. lets keep it simple eh.

    Roger.

I should have said the figure is a NCO of Bavarian 1st. Schweres-Reiter-Rgt. 1905.
The photo below is from the Hecker & Goros website.

    Roger,

I think you've done a really nice job. It gives me courge, as I also paint in acrylics, and I've just ordered my first mounted figure. So you are giving us "new horse painters" some incentive!

    Thanks! Cheers - Kyle ;)

looking good , one point you may consider a horse's coat is generally a little lighter on the belly and theinside of the legs a little light red or/and orange added in these areas to the highlights I find improves the appearance of a bay horse
I use oils but I'm sure a similar effect can be achieved with acrylics

Thanks fella's. Kyle it isn't as daunting a task as I first thought, in fact I don't know why I have left it so long.
    Thanks Peter, good tip, cheers.
    Thank you Roc.

The belly and inside of the legs of the horse are lighter than is shown in the photo's.
