I am a big fan of Ernest Hemingway and wanted to do a piece of him at some point. When I found this photo of him on his boat, the Pilar, with his son Jack in 1935, I knew I had to make it into miniature. Hemingway has his foot propped up on the fishing chair, and there will be a fishing rig for catching marlin attached to it as in the photo on the right. It's getting there, but still lots to do. Bear with me, everything is just loosely Blu-Tacked together for the moment. Here's what it looks like so far, with some reference as to what I'm going for. Stay tuned. Cheers, Stephen

Looks promising Stephen, but I think the chair's horizontals are a bit on the thick side.

Thanks guys. Yeah, maybe they're a bit thick, but should be easy to sand down a bit, or if not just replace 'em, ought to be fairly easy. Appreciate ya keeping an eye out.

    Oh My, Stephen:

To delve into this subject matter, to pay homage, IMHO, to one of the great
American writers of the 20th Century is a worthy endeavor. As you know, he
spent the last years of his life living in Key West, Florida. Altho he had fame
and recognition he didn't live a happy life. Yes, it does take more than money
to make us happy. . . . And then to end it the way he did. . . .

I commend you on this worthy project — to help keep his memory alive.
And yet we have his work; i.e. Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and
the Sea, For Whom the Bells Toll, etc.

I will follow this with great interest. . . and I wish you well with this creative
process. As I think about Hemingway it seems I gravitate to the film with
Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman . . . the Spanish Civil War. He really had a
way of creating true drama; explaining the human condition in dangerous
situations. . . all done with economy of words.

    Wishing you success,

    The Miami Jayhawk

"Death in the Afternoon" describes well the drink and the scene methinks. Great project.

Rick, thanks sir...Hemingway was an incredible character and of course an incomparable writer, hence why a project of him was a must for me. Originally the older, 1950's Hemingway in Key West was what I wanted to model but finding this picture seemed to sum him up better than other ideas. Appreciate you following.

    Peter, much appreciated.

    Almost ready to paint.

Couple quick shots of the completed 'fighting chair' for Hemingway. This one was fun to do, and was my first time scratchbuilding something like this. The figure is done and primed as is the base, will post pics once I start painting as it's all in pieces and would be rather boring to show ;) Let me know what you think. Cheers, Stephen

Appreciate that Carl. Thanks for pointing out the size of that tubing beforehand, I'm much happier with it now.
