Its a great stage to reach when you get the primer on and all of the filling and modifications become one colour and everything looks right, well done with this and as said by others, your project is extremely inspirational.

Thanks Nap, he is just sat on his mount, I will do the basic paint work separately then mount him for detailing.

My idea now is to do this as a pic by pic of as much of the steps as i can, hopefully showing how I build up the paint work.

Please feel free to add your comments relevant or otherwise.

Base colour for face and jacket are first up. 20190503_221210.jpg

Cheers grasshopper , Porte hardest part was getting the left arm right so that the hand tested on the horses flank.

As you get into the painting, try to get shadows on the horse with rider in place, so when he’s finally stuck together will look seamless..

That is actually my plan, I do have a little work to do on the hores before I can start the basic horse painting.

    Hi Nap

Yes to oils.... even for base I use oils.
I might have a strange technique which may become apparent as this piece of "art" work takes shape.

Base are so far W&N cad red and flesh .

I tend to use what you get from the tube, if I need a lighter shade I use one I.e beep red cad/ light red cad, and just build on that.

This is a great subject well researched and prepped up

A couple more.... slowly slowly...actually waiting on some stuff from art shop but I'm now going to start on the face for awhile,

I also noticed I forget his spurs so will sort that when that art shop stuff arrives.

This is coming on great guns Malc. Like the progress so far and love the alterations you’ve made. It’s an imposing piece and will no doubt look great once it’s finished.
