Hello guys..I've been working on a bust over the last few days. It's nothing more than the head at present, so excuse the lack of finesse on the neck area
It's around 1/8th scale so it's a bit bigger than the standard size for a bust..if there is a standard size of course.

All comments and criticism are very welcome as always.

Many thanks for taking a look at my stuff...Roy.

    Hello mate

He looks familiar! It's the sort of face that makes you think "I've seen him before". I can't put my finger on it but there is a resemblance to someone back there in my memory banks. There's a bit of Michael Caine in the front view, especially in the mouth area, or is that just my bad glasses

    Nice clean work as always!

    Best regards

    Phil

Roy - Looks great so far, mate! I'm sure it will be a fascinating face. I can see 10 ways you could develop this! Look forward to seeing what happens next!

If I ever did a bust, I think I'd like to do this guy. His photo was originally posted on the Great War Forum a few months back. He's an unknown Bavarian corporal machinegunner of the 10th Regiment. There was some speculation that the badges on his hat might indicate he was actually an Austrian serving in the German army, but nobody knows. I know one thing for sure - looking at this guy makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Look at those eyes....

Thanks for the replies fella's..I have some more basic work to do on this in the morning...but before I get into that, I need to correct an error, and a sizeable one at that. It was pointed out, and illustrated for me by a member of the Planet...very big thanks..and it just goes to show how we can work on something and miss an important element of it (well I certainly can anyway)...I've posted the picture below to show just how helpful these forums are when you get such excellent feedback...

    All the best...Roy.

    Roy,

Marc...many thanks for the kind remarks, hope this fellow will shape up soon, and good luck with the Ronin.

This is about the best result I have been able to get with the alignment of the ears. I've done a little more work on the eyes and also reduced the overall size or mass of the nose. The addition of the eye-brows seems to soften the overall expression making him a little less aggresive. I still need to get the upper eye-lids to look more similar as his left eye-lid looks heavier to me
Any comments or criticism are always appreciated as usual.

    Thanks for looking...Roy.

Well, The Ronin is a great sculpt. Cleaning was almost nothing.
    Fitting is superbe.
What tooks me solong to paint is that i cannot made a choice for the right colours.
I surfed the WWW and see almost patterns what is above my skills.
So now i'm looking for the clothing without patterns.

you asked for comments on your new sulpt. I looked for it, looking at photo's that a took at anatomic class on the "cuttingroom"but i cannot find mistakes.
    So, keep going.

Dear Roy - OK, I wasn't really interested in sculpting a bust before I saw this head. Now, maybe someday. That's an interesting face! Maybe a little Cooper-ish, in his later years, perhaps.

How did you start this? What kind of an armature do you begin with? ETC.? ETC.?

    All the best,
    Dan

Dan, thanks for the encouragement...it's great that you might have a shot at a bust. I'm kinda learning myself in this scale at the moment, but I have another couple on the bench to begin. I'll try to take as many in-progress photo's as time will allow and perhaps put a thread together.

    All the best...Roy.

    Hello Roy!

So far looking good! His face got character. I like that! Actually you gave a kick start to my bust sculpting project. It's been hanging too long at my head and it's good time it to land on my workbench. :)

    Cheers Mikko
