Hey all, back from vacation and have started the next project. Gonna attempt a young Hank Aaron bust from the pic below. This will be a challenge, but a fun one...

Added nose, eyes, mouth, eyebrows, cheeks and chin. So far he's entirely done in super sculpy (I need the long working time ). Please feel free to critique anything you see now and as this piece progresses. I really value the input from you all!

As Rob would say, pen drawing on figures is a bad habit.

But it sure helps!

VERY nicely done! But where's the Adam's apple? Aren't the jugulars a bit too thick?

    Hang tough!

Thanks for the comments, they are very encouraging.

Pete, the apple's not there yet and the entire neck has to be fleshed out, so that may account for the oversized look of the jugs (sternocleidomastoideus ). You're basically looking at pure muscle right now in the neck area. I'll keep your observation in mind as I go though; Hank was certainly no body builder.

Excellent work thus far. I'm not a sculptor so I can't critique it.
My only question, is if you have other reference photos of HA. The image (drawing) you posted doesn't look right to me. A little "cartoony". I don't think HA's features were that pronounced (not your sculpt, the image). Just a thought.
Let me know if you need photos, I may have some at home in my old man's baseball card stuff.

Hey Lou, thanks. Got plenty of photos of the real Hank. I just posted the poster pic because it's closest to the pose the bust will be in. Most of my reference pics are from a book I got back in 1974 when he hit 715. Lot's of good pics of him in his early career years as well as later career pics. Some day I hope to do a full figure of him. He and Johnny Bench were my first baseball 'idols'.
